I'm trying to find a host who aren't too concerned about the nature of the sites they're hosting. I don't mean a host which will allow me to store pirated software on their servers, I just mean a host that has a leniant TOS agreement where the written material is concerned.

Any ideas anyone? I know about Entangled Web, but they're far too expensive. :(

It would help if you could elaborate on the type of content you want to provide.

OK, well I'll have to confess then. It's for a warez information resource site which will also contain links to warez sites, but no illegal content itself.

Go on, start throwing your eggs and rotten veg now. :(

Just wondering what warez info has to do with freedom of speech?

Just to let you know, a judge ruled in the DeCSS case that links leading to illegal material (DeCSS code in that case, which I don't think is illegal in the first place) is illegal. Freedom of speech does not apply. While I think this is ignorant, it's the law... unless another judge reversed it.

If you find a host willing to support you in what a judge ruled as illegal activity, that host itself could get into trouble.

If anyone knows if they reversed that ruling or not, let me know. :) I remember 2600.com being outraged at the ruling.

Judges don't write laws; they interpret them, creating what is known as case law, which can be argued over in subsequent cases. And yes, the issue was that the DeCSS code itself was alleged to be illegal - an absurd concept in a free society, but there it is.

Why not visit 2600.com for the latest information? Looks like the case hasn't gone anywhere new yet.

Regardless of that, though, most hosts will disallow this type of site simply because it leads to other problems - complaints, attacks, bad perceptions, etc. Refusing to host such content is another freedom we have.
