Does aletiahosting have load balancer? Is aletiahosting any good?

Anyone know any hosts have this?

Thanks

What kind of load balancer are you looking for?

The only balancing server software I've seen is Win2k Advanced Server clustering with 4 nodes.

I don't know exactly what your asking, could you eleborate a little? IMHO, Aletia is very good! They have had some machine troubles, but fixed them. Their support is excellent!

Load balancing is a technology used to balance the load across various servers and so forth. Such product is Cisco LocalDirector.

Is this kind of technology only available on expensive hosts or dedicated servers?

I've been using Aletia for about 5 weeks and I'm am very happy with them. Excellent support. A few short (couple minute) downtimes lately (according to EasyMonitor) but overall I have no qualms in recommending them.

If you're just looking for a shared account, load balancing shouldn't be a concern. They're really only relevant when you are dealing with a single site that requires more than a single server.
If you have 500 shared hosting accounts you wouldn't replicate them across two servers and load balance, you'd put 250 on each server. It's cheaper and it makes more sense.

Its not just for performance reasons its also reliability - if one server goes down the other takes over.

In this scenario it would be correct to duplicate all 500 accounts.

There are alot of people who offer load balancing for dedicated servers. Basically, you can just ask your colo or dedicated server host and they should be able to get something hooked up with all your servers. Basically, if you have a huge site that runs on more than server, you will need some sort of load balancer. The fact is that most hosts dont use load balancers, because they only host sites on one server. This means that your account will be on one server, and just that one server. If you want some sort of fail over server, ive seen some people do this:

Get 2 hosting accounts with different companies with different server locations. Next, Set up each site on each account. Then, configure your DNS servers so that ns1.firsthost.com and ns1.secondhost.com....this way your site will be fail proof and will do a kind of load balance. Basically if the server times out, it will switch to the alternate hosting account.

Im not too sure if this will work, but its worth a try.

Yes and Yes. You'll very rarely find web hosting companies offering load balancing on virtual hosting plans, it is a complicated and expensive setup especially for multiple clients, things get even more complicated when your site is dynamic and uses databases.

What you might find is a web hosting companies that duplicates your site (every X hours) onto a backup server, however this is not load balancing, and merely a way to avoid long periods of downtime if something terrible happens to the primary server.

That's what I thought you were wondering about...but i've heard ppl have strange ideas of what load balancing is. Anywho, Aletia, to much knowledge, does not offer this. I would email them ( sales@aletia.com ) and ask them. They have great customer service and you should get a respond within a short time.
