View Full Version : I want to see how much I helped and can't!
websterworld 03-01-2004, 02:46 PM Hello pips. :)
There was a thread about messengers around here somewhere...
anyway, people got talking about gaim... and I thought I'd visit the site.
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
well as you see the version right now is 0.75... I was reading thru the site, and I found out that they need help with translations.
so I'm a nice guy, I thought why not.
I emailed them and helped them out with hebrew.
and I'm happy to say that I'm part of the 0.76 version of gaim. :)
however, I'd really like to see if it worked out ok. I got an email saying that they made a beta installer with my changes... but I can't download it!
so I helped out, but I can't see what I did. I don't know how long it will take to the release of 0.76... a few weeks probably.
so heres the link I got:
http://gaim.sf.net/win32/gaim-0.76cvs-hebrew.exe
it should work, but it doesn't for me.
I hope its just me.
can anybody be nice enough to try and download it and see if it worked.
Best,
Eugene.
TeKiZeRo 03-01-2004, 02:49 PM Nope, it doesn't work. Are you sure the link is correct?
websterworld 03-01-2004, 02:51 PM oh :(
I was hoping it was just me...
thats the link I got sent.
I emailed back asking but no answer yet...
Best,
Eugene.
TeKiZeRo 03-01-2004, 03:03 PM Hang in there.. they probably messed up on the link or something.
websterworld 03-01-2004, 03:47 PM Hope so.
I'd be really nice to see how it turned out...
Best,
Eugene.

thats so ignorant..
maybe you should study your history again...
Joseph_M 03-01-2004, 06:15 PM That is so damn ignorant!!! Especially what with Israel being in the news so much lately!
Anyway websterworld, I'm sure the Israeli community & other Hebrew literate citizens are greatful for your assistance in providing the service to them!
anon-e-mouse 03-02-2004, 08:36 AM Why is that ignorant? Not everyone knows the language that some countries use.
A lot of counties use a language associated with their country. French speak French, Italians speak Italian, so would it be so surpising for some to think that Hebrews speak Hebrew? Or Israelis speak Israeli?
websterworld 03-02-2004, 08:51 AM what on earth is a hebrew? if you meet one please tell him to come see me...
"hebrews"... come on.
there are some basic things that people know... or should know.
when I was in the US and I was living with this girl, she was 10 at the time... she couldn't point out where africa was on a map.
now she was 10... but still, thats damn "I-live-in-the-woods-know-nothing" attitude to have...
are you saying that its fine to be like her? I sure hope she can point out africa now... I made sure that she knows where it is. lets hope she didn't forget.
;)
anon-e-mouse 03-02-2004, 09:36 AM I could probably reel off a heap of languages and ask you what country they are associated with. You may know some, but I bet you wouldn't know them all ;)
websterworld 03-02-2004, 09:40 AM try me... :D
Nullified 03-02-2004, 09:59 AM Little off topic are we?
websterworld 03-02-2004, 10:03 AM what were we talking about again?
hey, who started this thread anyway? I'd ask like to ask him...

lol I think this dude called gaim started it...
MattF 03-02-2004, 12:29 PM try me...
Not really a fair test when you've got google etc.. at your finger tips. I doubt anyone "knows of" all languages and associated countries/lands, unless you've made a point of studying, even so the majority will not. It is a little unfair to call some one ignorant because they do not know who uses hebrew, I could take a guess but merely a guess, does that make me igorant? Do you know who uses Tjoashax?
So you've search Tjoashax and found I just made that up :D but you still searched.. does that make you ignorant for not knowing?
websterworld 03-02-2004, 12:45 PM Actually I didnt think of cheating... :)
but thats besides the point.
There are some things that are basic. 1+1=2, where africa is... what day of the week it is.
I'm not saying that you HAVE to know who speaks hebrew... but its just a very strange thing not to know. I mean, how on earth did it happen that he never opend up the news and watched about israel?
Xshare 03-02-2004, 01:01 PM I'm Israeli. I've helped people with some hebrew translations before, but nothing as big as gAIM. Congrats, Webster!
