carolinahosting 03-01-2004, 03:20 PM Wow, sounds great. Sort of like a BurstNet Refugee sale huh
It is for me. What was I thinking. Well, this will make 3 servers for SM from myself now.
7de5igns 03-01-2004, 03:58 PM Is it possible to get the setup fee wavied? If it is you got a new customer.
YourHost 03-01-2004, 03:59 PM I am sorry I can not waive the setup.
But we are worth the extra few bucks :-]
FYI: Fantastico is misspelled on the order form.
Good deal btw. :gthumb:
saint1959 03-01-2004, 04:13 PM What is the approx setup time right now as I am assuming you guys have a much increased load of customers due to the Burst implosion...
Last I heard was 24-30 hours, but that was before this morning's outage at Burst.
Edit: see http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1891273#post1891273
thunderwest 03-01-2004, 04:23 PM I have cancelled my server but have 30 days left. I will purchase but I want to wait till about the 17th to order so I do not have a long overlap. Can I make an arrangement to hold this special till then?
I just need someone to allow me to pay for servers by PayPal....
Even BVS reseller account was disabled on WHT, dont know any SM reseller who may allow to buy these servers by PayPal for these prcies... If anyone could help, please pm.
yaax, here are some SM resellers to get you started (all take PayPal). I'd suggest contacting each and seeing what they can offer you:

Thanks
YourHost 03-01-2004, 05:00 PM Normal turn around is 24 hours.
phinsup 03-01-2004, 05:04 PM Can current customers get fantastico?
Schaap 03-01-2004, 05:04 PM My BurstNET server has just been renewed, I am 100% sure that I will rent your 2.4 celeron with SM, will I still receive the CPanel and Fantastico then? It would be so great...
Thanks in advance..

Chris Reilly 03-01-2004, 05:06 PM Hello,
I am very intrested in renting the silver package.
For £38 per month. I am setting up a forum hosting site and it would be ideal
I would highly consider buying it if there was no set up fee, i just cannot commit $99 right away.
I do not really need fantactico at all as the features arnt needed.
If you could work something out, please let me know chris@invisionplus.net
mp3sattack 03-01-2004, 05:24 PM you got me as client today ;) SM did exactly what i needed (i hadn't even slept well last night, and then in the morning i read about this in another thread.. as soon as i get my sm server working, i'll sleep much better, heeeeee)
yeah the setup fee is.. so so.. but well you made a good deal with cpanel and fantastico, so you got me :)
Imago 03-01-2004, 05:27 PM As far as I know, the Silver management package is free.
CybexHost 03-01-2004, 05:38 PM Silver is free, yes.
I just bought my first SM box! This will surely effect those hosts considering switching from BURST. The prices are great considering the cPanel charge of $20/MO is essentially waived!
Hooray for SM!

As displayed in their prices, you can either pay a low monthy fee, and a $49 setup fee, or an even lower monthy fee, and a $99 setup fee. NOT FREE SET-UP!
(Unless you get the $300 a month one)
Prince 03-01-2004, 05:52 PM Bye bye Burst/Nocster, I just ordered a Server Matrix server! :)
Chris Reilly 03-01-2004, 05:53 PM any ideas when this offer ends? I really would like to get one
Prince 03-01-2004, 06:37 PM Not sure, you should get one though...I got a faster server (P4 2.8 gig), with 3 times more memory (2 gig) for $10 more per month.
Chris Reilly 03-01-2004, 06:44 PM I would love to get one, bu i wouldnt use it for the next 3 months and:
A) I would lose 3 or so months cash
B) If i leave it i lose the offer
:(
BaddaBing 03-01-2004, 06:59 PM It ends in a week, well says the SM Sales Team
boeki 03-01-2004, 07:50 PM does anyone know the ram and 2nd hdd upgrade setup fees for SM?
I'm thinking of getting the basic package, say the P4-2.4, but later upgrade ram and add another hdd. Other than the additional monthly fees, does SM charge for the setup?
mp3sattack 03-01-2004, 07:51 PM O_O i'm impressed, SM already called to confirm my order and said everything will be working in 24 hours O_O
truly i didn't think they'd call international to confirm (when paying other things i've had to confirm with scans or faxes), but of course with phone confirmation it's much more faster, whoa this is a good thing from SM n_n
boeki,
According to the order form on the website, you pay $20 per month for an extra 512MB, $30 a month for an extra 40GB HDD.
Yourhost,
I really hate paying an additional monthly fee for extra RAM and a backup HDD. Will SM be able to provide a one time charge for extra 512MB RAM and a 40 GB HDD?

This question has been asked numerous of time in here and SM's forum, the answer is yes, they have heard of this suggestion but NO, they don't provide it, at least for now.
Raptors 03-01-2004, 09:50 PM I hate you yourhost, :D you should offer this few days earlier :D

I am interested in leasing one of your servers. However, I am concerned about the number of ThePlanet listings at http://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/ . In particular a couple of the listings date back to Dec 3. I mention this since it would be disastrous if my email were to get blocked.

Trayton 03-02-2004, 02:23 AM Wow great deal wish i had got this :(
anand247sm 03-02-2004, 06:48 AM the offer from SM is real nice, but have anyone of you ever looked at the partition setups these guys do by default ? The partitions are all setup inside single /
I manage several boxes at SM for my customers. Here is the df -h for a box.
/dev/hda3 70G 4.5G 62G 7% /
/dev/hda1 502M 25M 452M 6% /boot
none 247M 0 247M 0% /dev/shm
They don't even follow the specs as provided by cpanel guys for disk partitioning forget nething else.
Guys i am not saying that there is any probs with SM, but atleast i believe disk partitioning should be done properly on servers.
And this is not a single box, i have seen this on every box that i maintain on SM today (i think that would be 5-6 min)

Rob T 03-02-2004, 07:24 AM anand247sm - servermatrix will partition your disks however you ask them to - they are pretty flexible that way. I have 5 (soon to be 7) servers I managed there and they have had no problem with any special requests I have made with partitioning disks a specific way - in fact, they have a spot on their order for specifically for that.
boeki - The last time I ordered a RAM upgrade I believe there was a $25 setup fee in addition to the monthly fees on the RAM. I don't think I've ever added a HDD after the fact, but I would imagine the setup would be similar. That was quite some time ago, so it may have changed since but that was my experience.
YourHost - You never did answer the question about existing customers getting fantastico - will this be available, and will there be some cost involved? Should I just go ahead and put in a ticket via Orbit (I need 3-4 licenses). You guys should really think about hooking up with the RVSkin guys too - excellent cpanel skin.

My post was related to people who actually don't know anything about disk partitioning etc and just order boxes. Later they find sys admins to manage boxes for them. That was my point.

Beachcomber 03-02-2004, 11:15 AM NO they shouldn't
We liked having FREE Fantastico and RVSkin as part of our offerings all by ourselves...Don't want SM to do it direct TOO..
Just kidding of course, both Fantastico and RVSkins are great products and represent great value...and the more we all get out of our servers for us and our customers, the healither the industry will be...
OK, gotta go..Site is getting swamped again with Burst Refugees........

Which server? I just tried it on several, and it worked. Make sure you put the code wht in the Pormotion Code field, then click "get quote". It should reflect the sale then.

djstonefish 03-02-2004, 11:43 AM From the SM Forums: There's a $20 one time fee (per server) if you're an existing customer and want fantastico installing - although I believe someone mentioned it could take up to 3 weeks.
HTH
anand247sm 03-02-2004, 11:50 AM Is there a further discount if i don't want fantastico ? Free cpanel is ok.
djstonefish 03-02-2004, 11:58 AM Not as far as I know: Fantastico is a free bonus.
duntuk 03-02-2004, 12:03 PM the previous deal was a bit more enticing than this one... (free 2nd 80GB hd--with the super saver 2.8... which is $40/month extra normally... this current deal only saves you $20/month...)
on the other hand, the free cpanel would be a better deal if there was only a one-time charge for upgrades, but since there's not, oh well...
;)

dominiqua 03-02-2004, 02:50 PM I am very interested in one of these servers. Would someone please answer a question for me?
I notice the Silver service is free with the package. I prefer at this point in time to have a managed server?
Would this package be enough?
Would someone let me know what I would be required to do on my own? (not the obvious like looking after my customers, setting up domain names, etc BUT server issues)
Thank you for the help

Thats when you go to Server Matrix Resellers, like CybexHost, which offer an additional level of support and managed services.

Well every hosting company has its own defination of managed servers. You should always ask them before hand to check what they say is managed. And as cybexhost1 mentioned thats the reason us resellers are present.
If you can't manage the servers yourself, consider either taking a higher management service from SM or look for a company / someone who can manage the server for you.
As dougefresh said about backup, its always better to have backups, better than getting f**ked later. (sorry for the language)

Theres an odd solution to that, buy a new SM server, cancel your old one after you have moved everything over, and ta da you are now getting a cheaper price, kinda alot to go through though.
I am looking at totalchoice.
Could I put SCSI HD on it? seems more reasonable to match SCSI with XEONs

Hi, Matt!
This is the first option which will costs you one additional setup fee and the rest of the monthly transfer. With the new server, you will make up for the losses in 8 months (minimum).
The second option is to pay the $20 setup fee for Fantastico and get it free (which I did for the benefit of my customer friends).
PS. This, IMO, is the better option, because in December, there might be some bigger deals to make you decide upgrade your server.
Just thinking aloud...
outie 03-05-2004, 05:02 AM I have been paying 139 for the super celeron 1.7, which is now 69 with 99 seutp. I think this is pretty obvious how fast I can make up for it. I was surprised that I don't even have to pay for additional IPs any more like I have been doing.
I almost shot off an email to my account manager, but then I saw this...

sallam 03-07-2004, 12:05 AM Hi 'YourHost'...
I'd like to order a super celeron 2.4 with $99 setup, but my credit card has a monthly limit for internet shopping, which the server cost + setup will exceed. Can you possibly split the setup fee in 2 for me? so I can pay $50 this month with the server charge, and the other $50 with next month charge?
If thats impossible, can I just pay the $99 setup fee now, then get the server next month when I start paying its monthly charge?
Hi YourHost,
I'd like to order a C-1.7G with US$99 setup. Any special price for me if I pay yearly?
I'm sure you guys would get much faster responses if you emailed sales at servermatrix dot com instead of posting here.
eXecution 03-07-2004, 02:06 PM When does this offer end exactly??

YourHost 03-07-2004, 02:36 PM This special ends first thing tomorrow (Monday) morning.
eXecution 03-07-2004, 02:41 PM Thats bad... can a server be reserved?
mrbass 03-07-2004, 04:01 PM Why do we have to use the Sales RFQ? Is it required. I hate having to type out all the specs. If it's your 2nd and 3rd server do they give you any discount? If not then I'd prefer not having to fill out the sales RFQ and just ordereding it normally.

You can use the main page, enter the "wht" promotion code, then "get quote" and paste that information in to the RFQ.

Tallon 03-07-2004, 07:29 PM I don't usually make posts like this but I'm in awe already. I placed an order for a server at 12:23 and at 3:15 I received an email that the server was set up and ready to go. Less than 3 hours, wow. In my three years in this industry, that's a first. *does the happy dance*
mrbass 03-07-2004, 09:40 PM thanks for the 1) get quote 2) copy and paste...just did that for 2 more servers at 5:30pm PST. Just in time before promo runs out.

It's a good one also.
Curto 03-08-2004, 02:17 PM How long will the new offer be valid for?
I hate waiting for checks to clear ;)
mrbass 03-08-2004, 10:34 PM it's been over 24 hours since my order..still waiting. Just hope they set it up tonight since billing (pro-rated for the month) starts today. I'm glad I got in on the free cpanel rather than the free 80GB since I don't need the extra hd space.
Mick73 03-26-2004, 07:19 PM Dang this is a sweet deal! Bring it back again please!!!!!!!
I'll be waiting for this deal to come back to sign up!
