Yesterday I join a text link exchange program - let's say www.x*********** - and put their exchange code into my client manual area.

Today I have found that their administrator through their admin area <http://www.x***********/administrator/xxxxx.phtml> inspect my main site and use browser view source code menu, tried to locate their exchange code in my main page.

They became panic since they have found my tracking code script track their referral URL which in this case is their admin area URL http://www.x***********/administrator/xxxxx.phtml.

Then they sent me an email asking me to remove the following code from my site:
<IMG SRC='/cgi-bin/log.cgi?trak-it.gif&ref=http://www.x***********/administrator/xxxxx.phtml' height='1' width='1'>

LOL :emlaugh:, how could this person is so stupid. Did not understood that ref variable is a dynamic one.
And they just simply threaten me to remove the entire IMG SRC code.

I have already reply their email said that that ref variable is a dynamic one.
I will see if they is smart enough to learn it than simply threaten their prospective member.

While on the other hand I also sent a notify to them to cancel my account since I did not want to work with a stupid and paranoid programmer.

Hello,

We shown your website, we did not see the x*********** code in your website.

<b>Plus we found that you have linked to the administrator's section of x*********** in your main webpage.
Please delete the logging of the administrator's section because that is a security hazard for us and your website. If you do not remove it, we will take further action.

Here is the code that you need to remove from your website:

<IMG SRC='/cgi-bin/log.cgi?trak-it.gif&ref=http://www.x***********/administrator/xxxxx.phtml' height='1' width='1'>

Please remove the ref stuff from this logging script call.

The above code is before your </body></html> tags.
</b>
To earn credits for your account please insert the code below into your website:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript src=http://www.x***********/show.phtml?showlink=1295></script>

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at:

Thank you

What is the problem with doing it their way, if only to keep them happy?

Later,

The point he's making is that the URL is generated, and will depend on where the visitor came from...

<IMG SRC='/cgi-bin/log.cgi?trak-it.gif&ref=http://www.x***********/administrator/xxxxx.phtml' height='1' width='1'>

This code would mean the visitor came from http://www.x***********/administrator/xxxxx.phtml to his site.

If the code were:

<IMG SRC='/cgi-bin/log.cgi?trak-it.gif&ref=http://www.disney.com/donald.html' height='1' width='1'>

This would mean I went to his site straight from the disney, donal duck pages. The code only picks up where the person came from and is displayed to only that person. The only way to not have the code there, is to enter his site from a different place.

This site has a similar problem: http://DougBTX.isgay.com/

isgay.com gets emails demanding that a page be taken down, when really anything you type before the .isgay.com will generate a dynamic page with that word on the site. The page isn't really there, it is a script.

This is similar to this problem. If the admin would come from somewhere else, he wouldn't see that referral image code.
