I am very impressed with Ventures Online's network as described at www.venturesonline.com/network/network.html . What other dedicated hosts have similar networks with BGP4 routing? I am especially interested in hosts located in the Western US.

Most hosts use BGP4 routing.

We have servers with http://www.pwebtech.com and love the support and uptime they give. I am sure that they are as good as any other BGP4 provider.

I think the quality of Pwebtech's network depends on the facility. My server in the Equinix facility is bursting 10-45KB/s for downloads at the time I write this. I suspect that their main facility would have faster speeds. In this post (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?postid=144454#post144454), a Pwebtech representative said,

100 gigs of transfer for $129 does come at a price... There is no active BGP threw but there is a BGP fail over to NAC.
Even though most hosts have BGP routing, I suspect that the quality of the networks vary a great deal between hosts for reasons such as bandwdith provider, type of connection to the backbone, and bandwidth utilization. I would be interested to know the hosts that people believe have superior networks.

We have our servers in the Dallas ****** facility. They use Level3 and UUNET bandwidth and its fabulous!

I believe that's for their equinix facility (not sure thow this goes now), but they use NAC.net as their main NOC.

I definitely agree with NVB about PWeb's facility. Our speeds are often slow at the 'other' facility.

the Equinix facility in Va. has 53 different carriers piped in. The Newark NJ facility has about 18 different carriers piped in. So if you park you rack and servers in an equinix facility you should be able to hook up to many different carriers. the trick will just be setting up the bgp routing ( thanks to all the guys of the board who helped me when I asked about this, do you know that those bgp consultants charge 2 arms, a leg and a first born ) to utilize all the pipes you bought ( I could just see the router table in my head for 53 pipes, oh what a headache )

You can plug in those carriers true, but to get pricing anywhere near afforadable you have to commit alot of traffic to each of those providers. So, having htem there does'nt do you much benefit unless you have a few hundreds megs of traffic to divide up between them.
