Are you speaking with respect to application hosting, game serving, heavy DB hosting, or just general shared hosting ? I would venture to say that if you provide a bit more info regarding the actual intended use, you would get many members chiming in on their opinions .... If I had to vote and had no other info: Dell Dual Xeon !! Good luck ! OutOfTheBox 02-29-2004, 09:09 AM No I mean brand wise. Both are dual xeons nate 02-29-2004, 09:18 AM Gotcha ... Dell for sure !! It is all about brand loyalty these days. You know how people get one brand of something and if it works, they keep on going with that :) I have personally used Dell for everything from laptops, workstations, and servers and I find them to be of very high quality. Good luck again :) WirralNet Matt 02-29-2004, 09:34 AM HP by far. Dell support for both me and people I know has been crap to say the least. HP has always been 100% amazing. Had an HP monitor fail, so I phoned them up and without any questions asked, they sent a private courier out with a new one the very next day! It happened a second time, but 7 months out of warranty. However, again, HP told me that any HP product should be expected to last more then the years warranty period and they sent out another new one the very next day again. Every time I have phoned them, they have been very very helpful and fast call response times. Dell seem to talk down to you as if you know nothing. Me being a fully qualified computer engineer, I find this annoying, especially as their call centre staff probably just read whats on screen and dont actually take a great interest in what the actual products are etc... I have a mate who had a Dell system. It worked fine, no problems until about 11 months afterwards. The system basically would not turn on, it was the PSU that was at fault. But it took numerous phone calls and was over a week before Dell sent out an engineer to him. Apparently this was because he had not paid £119 extra for Dell support. I like HP products also, they just work, no hassle. Had a few Epson printers, they were utter crap compared to my HP one. Always needing cleaning, forever having software faults etc. Got an HP one this year and just sits there, and I know it will work when I need it too without any hassles. Dell are a very good brand, one of the best no question about it, however when compared to HP their support is abysmal, as are many companies in my experience :) dito 02-29-2004, 10:02 AM dell is allways nice imho |
