View Full Version : Cyber Squatters
Lubby 02-29-2004, 12:08 AM I've spent 15+ hours staring at this stupid computer screen trying to find a decent domain for a hosting company that isn't owned or doesn't cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It is getting very frustrating....I can understand someone buying domains and making a profit, but asking $600 for some really dumb domains is driving me insane over here. Maybe I just need to get some sleep but sheesh. Anyway if anyone has any half decent hosting domains that don't have a - and don't sound really corny please PM me.
Greg
Acroplex 02-29-2004, 02:41 AM Don't you just hate it Al Gore invented the Internet? :D
Welcome to the Internet..... Domains are much like realestate. $600 isn't really that bad if its a domain that you believe will be great for your business.

Knogle 02-29-2004, 05:31 AM It would have been awesome if the domain industry was regulated, and that trading of domains was disallowed.
That way, we could get rid of cybersquatters and a lot more domains would be freed. ;)

You can move to China, if you want your life to be regulated.
Knogle 02-29-2004, 06:18 AM I'm just saying that if the domain industry was regulated from the very start, we wouldn't run into problems of most 'good' domains being bought out already, etc.
Of course, the early birds who have the domains now will disagree will me, while the new entrants will whole-heartedly support my statement.
It's relative. :)

How about that trading of properties (houses, apartments) is disallowed and guess what would be like now? And FYI: even a not-so-decent apartment in Manhattan COSTS!

Hey, I support your statement only if all the wealthy land owners would be willing to hand out an acre or two for those of us not willing to pay thousands of dollars per acre. ;)
Freckled 02-29-2004, 08:11 AM Just go to deleted domains . com and do a search daily for names with host in them, you may be surprised what you can find and get ideas from there. Hope you can find one soon. Freckles

Yep, and the motor trade would be much better f you couldn't buy a 2nd user car , and just imagine if we were all forced to grow our own food and keep our own livestock ...
netgogo 02-29-2004, 08:39 AM My advice: get out of all this speculative madness and try
exotic open ccTLDs like .ws, .cc, .nu, .bz whatever is free and really good. Be original, be different!
kohashi 02-29-2004, 09:35 AM netgogo,
I am actually performing an experiment for SEO purposes with one of those exotic TLD's... if it works well I might consider, but as for selling them off.... it wont happen because it will cost a fortune to try and brand a new TLD into the minds of internet users.
As for domains being regulated: so under this theory that there would be more 'good' domains available, would you get to register one? How is that fair? How is that more fair than the current system? It sounds as if you are unhappy because things aren't in your favor. Another problem is deciding what is 'good' and what isn't? Less complaining and more work and research would probably pay off better for everyone. I came in very late to the domain industry and with very little cash, but still I managed to build a portfolio in less than a year that I am proud of. I think if you work hard enough and put in the effort, it can be done. You won't have premium single word .coms maybe, but there are other valuable domains still out there available for registration :)
Bashar 02-29-2004, 11:41 AM if this is a request i'd rather post at Domain Name Offers and Requests (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=55)
