View Full Version : Need a good Domain Name Registrar w/ no application fee
Compworld 02-27-2004, 03:27 AM We have been using a company for our member's domain name registrations, but there has been a big drop over the last few months. They charge 16.00 USD per year. Doesn anyone know of a registrar that charges competitive rates and offers a reseller plain w/o a setup fee?
Thanks,
CompWorld
VanHost 02-27-2004, 03:39 AM Why not get an Enom reseller account?
Compworld 02-27-2004, 03:50 AM Are they a good company? Is it hard to implement?
Thanks!
CompWorld
VanHost 02-27-2004, 03:57 AM They are a very good/large company. What are you implementing it with?
Compworld 02-27-2004, 04:08 AM Just registered, and it required me to pay an annual fee of 99.00. Also, wanted to charge me 3.0 + .99 per credit card transaction. Then, even if I wanted to add registration services, I have to charge 100.00 per domain. That is quite steep. I only want to charge a dollar or two on top of the registration. So, I am looking for a service that allows me to offer 8.95 - 9.95 domain registrations. This company does not seem to want to do that.

Hi, I just registered to share with you this, lol. I'm currently using the services of iRegistrations (er, my first post, cannot post URLs) for domain registration. They are charging $6.95 I think, for each domain... and I have gotten 5 domains, for myself and my friends.
So far so good, and there was once an incident involving me paying twice for the same domain. Refund took around 2 - 3 weeks, but at least they didn't try to swallow my money (albeit little, lol).
As for reseller hosting.. you might have to look around, I'm in a fix of my own as well, lol.
freak 02-27-2004, 04:36 AM how about www.dot.tk?
They are supposed to give domains for free...
Directi.com $0 Signup Fees, $75 initial deposit.
$6.99 for .com .net .org pricing.
No other annual, mainteance fees at all.
Our registrar of choice, after having tried 7 other registrars.
Compworld 02-27-2004, 06:19 AM All I need to ot offer domain name registrations. Not a web site. Why would a registrar require a deposit for offering domain name services?

Why would a registrar require a deposit for offering domain name services?
To obviously give you the Reseller pricing of $6.99 per year as opposed to the retail pricing of $14 per year.
This $75 is usable for domain Registrations at $6.99 per year. So, its not a security deposit or signup....its simply a first purchase. Compare it to Enom who require a first purchase of $695 to give you a price of $6.95 per year... "slight difference" Enom purchase is only 9 times higher compared to Directi.com
No, it does NOT require a website...where have I mentioned requiring a website ?

No, you don't need to go that route. EV1.net, for example, sells for $7.03; so unless you have a thousand domains, they should be good for you.
dmaven 02-27-2004, 11:18 AM I agree, if you have a handful of domain names, NEVER pay an annual "membership" fee. It is a waste of money
kohashi 02-27-2004, 01:22 PM i would strongly recommend against iregistrations, perform a search here at WHT and you will not be happy with the feedback they have recieved.

There is one born every minute - sorry!!! :(
Seriously if you have "just" got the domains do a complete search of this forum and you can find out the kind of things you have waiting for you - Kohashi is correct
Research Names 02-27-2004, 05:51 PM ENom, OnlineNIC, DirectI.

Sounds like you signed up for PDQ which was possibly a mistake
what you *probably* are looking for is a free 8.95 enom account and setup of registry rocket, then you get to set the prices to the end user and pocket the difference between sell and buy price (less the 99c and 3%) or to register them yourslef @ the buyt price of 8.95 and charge what you like
Compworld 02-29-2004, 08:10 AM I was looking into the Web.com or ourinternet.us.
Has anyone used either of them before?
Thanks,
CompWorld
Gary111 03-01-2004, 05:36 AM godaddy is a good choice if you are just buying a few domains and don't want to prepay anything...definitely a renowned and proven domain registrar, never interested at web.com or ourinternet.us...
Compworld 03-01-2004, 08:02 AM Godaddy.com charges resellers a fee to join, the others don't. This is why I am seeing if anyone else has any other suggestions.

OsirisLuke 03-01-2004, 10:59 AM but the thing about godaddy's reseller is this. They don't charge you say close to $700 to start your account as a reseller, like enom does. Yes I understand Enom is a "free" to apply service but you still pay. Many registrars charge you a annual fee or make you pay upfront large amounts. In my eyes the large amount might be ok if you have the abilty to do that, but what if your a smaller web hosting company and can't afford to shell out $700+ for a Registrar account. Then the annual fee might be worth it. this is all my opinion. Take it how you want.
othellotech 03-01-2004, 11:11 AM and the difference between paying $99 to be able to register through godaddy, and *depositing* $100 in an enom sub-account is .... with the enom a/c you still have that as money to spend on domains, whereas with godaddy it's a recurring cost for which you get little potential benefit
