View Full Version : Snow in Georgia invokes Angry Man
The Pioneer 02-26-2004, 08:27 AM Yes, it is true, the snow has ruined my entire day!
Two inches of snow and the whole state is shutdown. This is what Georgians call, "Winter Storm 2004"

Does it really look that bad?
Xshare 02-26-2004, 08:41 AM I'm in Georgia too! Atlanta, actually.
I'm actually happy with the snow, schools out. We got a whole 2 inches down here! Whoo! I took a pic of my 10 inch tall snowman, I'll upload it when I have the time.
kneuf 02-26-2004, 08:41 AM no, you got off lucky ;) whole state shut down for 2 inches (are you joking?) we've got like 10 inches and the roads/schools were still open...
Xshare 02-26-2004, 08:43 AM Well see, here in Atlanta, noone is/was ready for snow. Up north, they know how to deal with the snow, and they have snowplows and stuff. People have snow tires, and chains, etc. Here, we're all used to 55+ degrees! It's different, you see?

Yes, always wear your chains when going for a walk in two feet of snow :)

MDJ2000 02-26-2004, 09:28 AM Actually, chains are illegal on nearly all roads here in Taxachusetts. There's probably a greater percentage of 4WD and AllWD vehicles here than southern states, but that's just a guess.
We do have a bunch of plows, that come and move the snow from the street into your driveway. Many of us own snow throwers too. After last year, we got something like 65 inches, I had 6 foot piles on both sides of my driveway, I decided the shovel was out and it was time to buy the snow thrower. Of course, now we've only had one real snow of like 18 inches this year. Go figure.

Same here. We don't even get the 'Two hour delay...' without having winds of 30+ mph and at least eight inches of snow on the ground.
alapo 02-26-2004, 10:51 AM 3+ inches here shuts down DC. Thats pretty much the rule of thumb.
That is just plain funny.
2 inches to shut down most public services? Our's here didn't shut down til we galloped past the 70-80CM mark (took a few hours  )
Simon
Barbara 02-26-2004, 11:11 AM I remember the first snow fall that happened after I moved to Alabama. I woke up one morning to hear the list of school closings on the radio. I realized that I was in Alabama and there probably wasn't too much snow, but when I looked out the window, I could still see the grass through the snow. :D
It is fairly nice up here in illinois, supposed to be close to 60 today :P
nickn 02-26-2004, 12:38 PM There's not even two inches in my part of georgia.....Actually, it's barely a dusting (I'm west of Atlanta) and school's shut down.

At first I read 60 inches....yikes..
Torith 02-26-2004, 12:44 PM when I went to school the schools wouldnt close down no matter what it only closed down 1 time within my WHOLE time in High School. That is because of a huge blizard though the school still wanted to go on but got to many complaints.
Their is many times where we get between 2 to 3 feet of snow in one day and we would still have to go to school. Also the below 0 and the snow made a great mix! You guys are lucky though I am just glad I am on out school :D .

Doesn't seem to be that way in NJ, most of these people don't know how to deal with dry roads, and then when it snows you see all these people that have SUVs driving like mad because they think they are ok with 4WD and ABS. We've had 1 snowing here that IMO should have closed schools, which was in the 6-12" range (depending on the area). They have been closing schools for just about anything this year, they had used up all their emergency days already in this area before December had finished.
Hosemeyer 02-26-2004, 01:42 PM Snow tires? Who buys snow tires? Thats half the fun. I laugh when people go into ditches with snow tires and I'm using some all weather tires.
