How long before you move onto a dedicated or co-location?
I am starting my web hosting company as a reseller, and just wanted to know how long do you think I can stay with a reseller...
I mean is it completely necessary to move onto a dedicated server?
Advantages? Disadvantages?
I know dedicated servers can get expensive, perhaps in the $300-$400/month range.
Well any feedback is welcome.

I would have to suggest; you stay reselling until you're comfortable with administering a server.

Thanks.
From what I have seen, reselling is much cheaper than getting a dedicated server.
I mean dedicated servers run upwhere of $300/month.
Plus additional for software and misc..
Reselling seems like the best option.
I mean can someone have like 400 clients with reselling?

After all . . . . it could work out for 'both' of you.

Hello cooler,
If you are like me... know a little bit here and there but do not know how to administrating a server... here is my little story about my new startup hosting business :)
I am also a reseller (started somewhere middle of last month) :D
Here are my reasons to start as a reseller:
1. Learn from the experience about a little bit on administrating a server and handle the support issues etc...
2. Cost is low and can be easily cover your cost if you have 10 to 20 customers under you. This will depends on your hosting plans though.
3. Host my other domains and my friends domains.
Actually I try to be as honest as possible to inform my visitors to my site that I am just a reseller... I have a few people asking me whom am I reselling for and a customer suggested me to remove that information from my site. I have also read some of the members in this forum responses about this topic and I totally agreed :)
Although currently I am still working on my site, I have got a customer that started to refer his friends to me :D
As a new reseller, I can afford to take my time to work on my site since the cost isn't so high while I can continue to handle any outstanding support issues from my current customers.
Thanks for reading my little story
To your success!
Kindest regards,
Choon

Thanks everyone.
I will stick with being a reseller for the time being. I think that is the best route to take.
