Hi

I've been searching for an Unix host that offers domain pointers. Anyone has any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello
Its funy you should mention this because I have just popped into the forum trying to see what others charge for this.
We are considering offering a plan with 500MB of space and up to 25 domain pointers. Really intended for web designers who host clients sites.
Is there a demand for this?

It will be some time before we are in a position to offer this service, but I would like to know if other people have found this type of plan useful.
In other words - there is no point in offering it if no-one wants it!

What does that mean?

I have only ever had one enquiry from someone wanting this service.
I can provide it but I am not prepared to put in another plan when I am already adding subdomain plans (which many people are interested in).

My business model is built on reasonable volume and easily supportable products, which means I am not going to stock something if it won't sell or its going to use up a disproportionate amount of support time...

I can see that some companies offer this type of plan. I need to be convinced that I can make money out of it before I will invest the time and effort of putting in the systems and support necessary to make it work properly.

Look at it as at marketing action.

Gordon,

I believe DynastyHost might have been uhming and ahh-ing because of this :

http://www.webhostlink.com/announcement.php?forumid=1

Applicable to all forums, except Advertising Forum!

1. Web hosting companies are NOT allowed to open new topics in the Web Hosting forums regarding their hosting services, nor are they allowed to start survey or polls.

Guideline no.1 :
Not Allowed:
- I am the owner of GlobalMegaHyperHosting, what do you think of the following web hosting plan. They include unlimited data transfer and loads of POP3 e-mail accounts.

- We are looking for suggestions on how to improve our web hosting packages. Your suggestions will not fall on deaf ears.

Unfortunately your question falls under this category, so please refrain from doing so in future.

All others - feel free to give recommendations of other hosts that may help Jigg.

Oops
Sorry.
I just didn't engage my brain before typing .....

It was a genuine error and not an attempt to sell a product.

Gordon, I thought that I'd address this, even though the question may have been a bit out of place. I know when I was looking for a host, as a web designer, I found a lack of plans catering to the person with multiple domains. Just pretend you have 7 domains and go looking for plans. See what you come up with. It won't be pretty.

Aside from webmasters, now that prices have dropped for domains, I think many people have taken on a few domains, and have this need. I'm not addressing this to Gordon specifically, rather to all web hosts. Just something to think about, although I am fully aware that the host doesn't gain much by redirecting multiple domains to one account.
