I've searched the entire wht but wasn't able to find a reasonable solution.

I'm a sysadmin myself...and can tackle the linux beast myself...

I'm looking for a dedicated host who have almost 100% network uptime, reasonable charges, and listen to me quickly in times of disaster....as I would need to restore the backup as quickly as possible.

Has to be a very big and reputable company...
like...
Verio.com
Rackspace.com

The two major hurdle....with these big companies are.....cost of bandwidth and cost of upgrades.

A server with 300 gb , 1 gb ram and Dual processor 1 ghz comes to around 2000$ pm with rackspace....I guess I could own a cluster at around the same price.

Dialtone.com seemed to me the best solution ....but having read so many bad things abt them on this forum...I have changed my mind.

I don't need posts from advertisor....as I can't take servers from new or small companies...I need almost 100% uptime for my clients...can't take risk.

Please guide me.

I vote for www.voxel.net especially if you are thinking about building cluster servers solution. Voxel hosts some large companies, Ferrari included, if I am not mistaken. Voxel also is located in one of the best NOC in US, above.net ... Highly recommend them!

cheers,

Well, I'd give it more than just over 30 minutes. I'd prefer not to recommend companies, as people don't like that all that much (not you, other people). I'll attempt to help a bit until you get other replies.

First, I don't think http://www.dialtoneinternet.com is quite as bad as you may think. They have had a couple of complaints, and at least one error that caused one member a problem, but overall they seem pretty decent and other members have had positive experiences with them.

Second, I can only tell you from the experience I and we have had. I've had good luck with http://www.tera-byte.com (one colo'd server, one leased one). Network has been very good and downtimes minimal.

This board is hosted by http://www.voxel.net/ and Matt chose them out of the offers he received for a reason, but you'd have to ask him as to why. All offers were donations.

There are also past discussions about various providers here which you can read and see if any that have already been discussed interests you.

Other than that, you'll have to wait a bit :D

Edit:
While I was fussing with the McNugget (he's being very fussy at the moment), I see dektong answered you.

I choose dialtone internet, because they have a good technical support, that's all. But remember use their Linux plans, not Cobalt plans. Because they are expert on Linux plans

I usually recommend dialtone as a cost effective, quality alternative to rackspace.

I think they are smaller than rackspace. But they are big enough to offer real 24hr tech support and have always been extremely fast in responding to our questions/concerns--even in non-emergency situations.

For Us they always big enough, you can see it at:

from me at Indonesia, the price and facilities is important...

I usually recommend http://www.venturesonline.com - not the cheapest but a reliable network and fast+friendly support.
