Hi,

I was just wondering what you all think of a trouble ticket support system for a webhost, and if you use one or not.

If you don't use one, why not?

I think it depends on your needs. Right now I don't use a ticket support system, though I have looked at them. Seems if you are the only one getting the email, you have decent control over your inbox (ie: it isn't a disaster), and things are fine, then you might not need it.

If you have the need for multiple people to log into a system to handle various emails, the need to distribute email to various people (automatically or manually), and more organized tracking of support issues, then a ticket system would be beneficial to you.

Ever look at PerlDesk (http://www.perldesk.com)? It's free and one of the best systems, paid or free, available.

Does PerlDesk have E-Mail to Ticket support? If so how do they do it? POP3 or pipeing the email with send mail?

It has both, web ticket submitting and email....

A user can sign up for an account and submit tickets or any customer can just send an email to the script and it'll just show up as unregistered....

It uses piped mail....

We spent over 2 years looking for a good ticket script. Even started two designers on a customer one but nothing did the job. We finally found ticketsmith. It doesn't have a lot of initial advanced features but it's free and open sourced. We took that and with a few customizations, it turned out to be the very best option.

Worth a try
