View Full Version : Is this setup too much for a Email/Web/SQL server ?

Hi there,

I wonder if the following setup is more than enough for a server which does the following task.

Purpose :
Hosting of Forums (highly access)
MySQL
Email
FTP

Setup :
intel 2.4B
MSI 845GE Max
Ultra 160 SCSI Raid (mirroring) with 2 * 36G
512MB DDR Ram
512Kb SDSL line

Based on the above, is the setup way too over power?
If I plug in a Celeron 2.0G processor, will it lower its performance?

Thanks

The answer to that question really depends on how "highly accessed" the forums really are. I would recommend a good bit more memory. 1-2G if it is a heavy site would be a good starting point.

The specifications seems to be OK to me but are you going to run that on your SDSL line?

well the line will bottleneck before the server does. check out dslwebserver.com

What FSB regarding Mobo, RAM and CPU?

Nice speed SCSI :D

512Kbps is a little slow/low throughput for a e-mail server isn't it?
