Hello. I would like to know the the best temperature for the cobalt cpu. Mine is now 55 degrees Celcius. Up to how many degrees Celcius is good for the cpu?

Mine is usually between 28 and 34, so yours seems a bit warm :)

How can you know, what the temperature is of the CPU.

Starhost,

From your control panel -> System Status > CPU

Here is the message:

Over the past fifteen minutes, the CPU has been lightly loaded.

15 minute CPU load average is 0.06
The processor is currently 56 degrees Celsius.
The system has been running for 23 days, 12 hours, and 33 minutes.

Is there any way to dicrease the temperature?

franki.
where is your raq hosted? you may want to contact them to see if maybe a fan has died, or something to that effect..

Skylab,

My Raq4i is hosted in Rackshack. I just e-mail them, describing the 'problem'. Let's see the RS support... ;-)

i'm curious as to what rackshack will say the problem is. keep us updated..

RackShack rebooted my machine and after 5 minutes was up again. They told me that they checked the PM fans and that they are working properly. The temperature now is almost 40 degrees Celsius... I also asked them if there is any 'tip' to manually decrease the temperature but I didn't get any answer. However, I think the support was good, but it could be better...

Hi Franki,

I have quite number of RaQs here in Australia and I have never seen one hit 55°c. My hosting server has quite alot of load on it and it sits around 40°c on a big day. How much load is it showing?

I have just re-checked the CPU tempetarure. The message:

Over the past fifteen minutes, the CPU has been lightly loaded.

15 minute CPU load average is 0.00
The processor is currently 39 degrees Celsius.
The system has been running for 0 days, 21 hours, and 19 minutes.

The machine was rebooted yesterday. 39 degrees Celsius isn't bad, is it?

Franki,

When my server is sitting on 40°c the load is usually about 30%, I have a lot of people on this server... I keep my rack at a constant 16° and when i have a server sitting there doing nothing they usually hang around the 29° mark when not doing much

I wouldnt worry tooo much but keep an eye on it ...

Is it a new server with RS?

Yeatsie,

I have this server in RackShack for about 3 months and I don't have any problems, yet. I'll keep an eye on it and I hope everything to be ok...

Well...one of my raq's was running a bit hot yesterday... 54 C...I talked to RackShack about it, and within 2 hours, they had replaced a fan and now she humms along at 32 - 34 again.

So, I would suggest putting in a TT at RackShack if your raq is there and asking them to check it out.

Hope that helps.

They must have put your old fan in my server because mine is at 41 now and I have never seen it above 37 :P

What a coincidence one of our customers brought this question up today, he told us that his cpu was running at a set 52°c we checked it out and sure enough it was the fan behind the CPU...

It is now sitting about 30 as normal

No, they didn't say......I would guess just normal wear and tear.....what is important to me is that fact that they fixed quick, and now everything is good to go...actually, they fixed it a whole lot quicker than I thought....I had talk to a sysadmin and he had told me it would be monday before it could be done, I put the TT in anyway (Sunday) went to Soccer with my son, came back and it was done..
All in all...a pretty good deal...

More than likely, the fan was defective and it just took a while to fail. Typically the fans in servers have a life expectancy of ten years or so.
