Hope I dont get flamed for this, but...info is really hard to come buy without just jumping out there and asking, so here goes....
I went to a wholesale site, and wanted to make some purchases to resell....while in the registration process, I was notified I would not be able to register completely until the company received a copy of my reseller certificate. Can anyone pls explain this to me and how to get one? Would just getting a tax ID number be sufficient? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

would this product be linked to "web hosting" or "reseller hosting" by any chance?

Yes, they want your tax id. You'll need to start a legit business to get one of these. Assuming you may be talking about PC components, may want to check out newegg.com, they have good prices, the best support, and lots of times free shipping. Also, if you are just looking to resell lots of wholesale products, you might want to search the web for companies that support bling shipping. Which means they hold all the inventory and when someone orders from you, it ships to them directly from the warhouse.

If you are reselling taxable goods, you will need a state reseller (Sales and Use Tax) certificate. Should be a listing in your phone book-government listings for the state office that handles that. Normally called 'Sales Tax' or 'Revenue' office. Just call them and ask them what you need. May be some county or city requirements too. You can get a Federal Tax ID number as well if you want, but that is different. It's not required for Sole Proprietor businesses and maybe not for LLC setup's either. I think it is required for Corporations however. If you are just doing webhosting, ask your local Sales Tax office if it is taxable in your state. It is not in my state.
