What do you guys think? Pookster  Manu 02-22-2004, 10:14 PM I've seen the unlimited space / bandwidth offers on eBay and also seen the "pay X amount for a years or 5 years service etc" some offers are legit some are not, you just have to be very careful and do your research on the host in question. iWebSpeed 02-22-2004, 10:39 PM keep in mind: you get what you pay for fusionrays 02-22-2004, 10:41 PM It's best to stay away from ebay hosts who offer unlimited space/bandwidth. But for any host in general, always research, research and research. dynamicnet 02-22-2004, 10:43 PM Greetings: I don't know if it is true or not from personal experience. There is a gentlemen who goes to our church who did buy a hosting account from Ebay. Though, he admits that over 9 months later, there is still no site (that's on his part). There is a very old saying... "you get what you pay for"... and another one... "if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is." Thank you. XiaoKao 02-23-2004, 04:54 AM Rip-offs: Well, since you know its a rip off, then don't even bother to look Scams: like what dynamicnet said.."if its sounds to good to be true, it probably is." But, don't use the abusers as a sterotype Project X 02-23-2004, 05:26 AM one question: why would someone buy hosting off ebay when there are so many other places to buy it? XiaoKao 02-23-2004, 05:32 AM Most people have no clue WHAT a server is, nevertheless how hosting works. Since e-bay is an establsied market, "scammers" will have a easy time finding victims wisenerl 02-23-2004, 08:13 AM I think its unfair to class everyone on Ebay as a scammer, yes a lot are, but sometimes you could consider a trader on ebay with a rating of 500+ over a number of years may be a better bet than a host who has no proven track record. Its all down to choice, absolutely stay away from the unlimited or 1GB space and 50GB bandwidth for $10 per year. Just do your research, I use ebay and offer some discounts now and then as its a good and cheap way of advertising to promote Brand Awareness. terahost 02-23-2004, 08:21 AM There is no guarantee from any of these traders that they will still be offering the same service next month or next year. You are buying into a deal which you think is brilliant, but if the seller cannot make any cash they will go out of business. The moral of this story is that you have to trust a seller before paying for anything, exactly the same apples to ebay. NetSender 02-24-2004, 06:07 PM I believe you mean applies to ebay, heh, though apples to ebay is a pretty comedy phrase. A little OT I know, just my 2 cents :) And as for ebay : Dont go anywhere near that place, its all a scam ! terahost 02-25-2004, 07:45 AM thanks matt, i think you're an idiot, but anyway stay away from e-bay. xtsy 02-25-2004, 11:33 AM about 3 years ago I was hosting 12 accounts all at 19.95 from a company called linuxwebhost.com,I was happy about the service and all. then i I got greedy when I saw unlimited space and bandwidth for 50pounds/month.iwas paying way too much than that. Then I Bought the package from ebay.Guess what I GOT. A control panel which never worked, I guess he had a email script which he called instant setup but actually would send email to him and he would setup the account himself. Sites down all the time, no access to customer support, and after 15 days he asked me for the next month amount. I refused to pay him but he instited to pay me otherwise he would charge my credit card, and also sue m for 2 years payment etc cause he knew I was not in US. I said do whatever you can . So I started to look fo another soluton and found another company offering a reseller hosting in ebay.H e was charging 75 dolars for one month.I told him its too expensive and he turned out to be gentleman. He kindly pointed me to MCHOST.Where I could host unlimited sites for 35 dollars.I am currently hosting 150 sites happyli. and also found out WHT. So there are good and bad guys but most of them on ebay are scammers.Only few are good. |
