Okay lets say I want to start one of these lucrative hosting thing-a-majigers.:D
I don't want to plunge right in.
What do you suggest?
I was thinking reselling. Is this a good idea to start off? Can I mask the reselling company. Wou I want my customers to deal with me or the company.
Are there better ways to start off?
Should I just plunge right in if I had the money? Which I don't.
Any help would be very much apreciated from such great people as yourselves. :)

I'd say roughly 75-80% of web hosts start of reselling something else (may not be web space specifically, but something close). I started off reselling, eventually worked my way into a dedicated solution. It works great.
I know many here don't prefer CommuniTech.Net, but I'd recommend you resell for them. They are very rarley down, and you can fully customize the plans to meet your needs (ie, limit bandwidth, web space, etc...) The support isn't the best in the business, but if you're reselling you should know how to perform most tasks. ( www.communitech.net )
CommuniTech was the last reseller I sold for before I went dedicated. Which now I have 1 Win 2000, 1 RH Linux, and 1 RaQ... I know, its a variety but I like the fact I can have MS SQL 2000 & ColdFusion on my Windows box...
But seriously, check into it. Look at all your options because I thnk CT (CommuniTech) requires a $150 depost to start reselling. Well worth it in aspect of regular web host start up costs.

ProSam,
I started off reselling for Colossus.net, which I did for only a short amount of time before moving into dedicated and colo'd servers.
But if I were to start over again, I think I'd use www.mchost.com. Kiwi is a frequent poster on this board, and I haven't heard any negative things about him nor his business, except that he doesn't offer phone support. Neither do I so that doesn't concern me much....
Check it out, and good luck!
