I was wondering how hosts deal with Domain Name registration. I am not a host, so please forgive the ignorance. When a host gets an order to purchase a domain name, do they have automated scripts, which go to their registrar, and then register the domain name, or do they register the domain name manually?
If done manually, how much time elapses before a host registers the domain name(s), because if a host waites to long, then the domain can be registered by someone else?

enom has a registryrocket reseller program which automates everything including the billing, but it doesnt give you very much control over the look of the interface.

Is there a website link.
How does everyone else register domain names for clients?
Do you just use an online domain registration site or something?
How do the big/good wehosting companies register domain names?
Thanks in advance

Companies use both methods. It depends on what domains they are registering.
The company we register through doesn't provide automated scripts as some other companies do, but we purchase the domains at a really low price compared to them.
Also, with companies that provide automated scripts (called a reseller account), the webhost has to prepay credit, usually around $200 before they can start registering domains.
For your question about how long it takes for companies that process manually, again it depends on the company. Most will only register once they receive payment, so that factor comes into it.
Hope that helps :)

Since it is a bit too much to disect every program out there, I'd say you can sum it up...
1) API that connects directly to registrar for all functions.
2) Links that go to registrar's site, under your ID (almost like affiliate program -ish)
3) Complete manual registration, no scipts and you do not det redirected to the registrar's site.
I can't think of any other way it is done.
