I'm totally new to PDF files, but now I have to put on one on a website. What's the easiest, fastest, most preferred way to make a PDF file? What do I need?

You need adobe acrobat.. and depending on what you are making a PDF.. yea

if its text doc. use microsoft word (after you install adobe, you will have a PDF menu). It's pretty fast/stright foward with word.

You do do need adobe acrobat to make .pdf's
Search google for 'free pdf printer' - there are quite a few free ones that do an awesome job....

basically when you want to make a pdf file you have to type it up in a seperate word processor and then "print it" to a .pdf file that's how it works.... you just click on file print and then change the option from your printer to the "pdf printing" software.

It's the best variant! ;)

You may use it:

CutePDF Printer (http://www.acrosoftware.com/Products/CutePDF/Printer.asp) .

Easy for using - just printing the file (Word, CorelDraw etc.
formats ). ;)

Ps: And FREE!

Pardon me, Brendan. Artvision's post was indeed helpful. My follow-up question was intended to seek further information. The follow-up question was concerning a program that will convert an HTML document to a PDF, not a Word doc to a PDF as was suggested by Artivision.

So, does anyone other than Brendan know of a program that will allow me to convert from HTML to PDF? I know I can use the CutePDF Printer to go from Word to PDF, but that isn't the question. Artvision, your original reply is appreciated so if you know anything about my latest query I would welcome your insight.

Let me clarify.
CutePDF Printer will convert any file you can print to a PDF. To use it, you just open the file you want to convert, go to File>>Print and choose CutePDF Printer (thats not the exact name of it though). Its just like printing a file out on paper, except it gets "printed" into a PDF file.

You could also use pdf995.com - there's a free version I use and does the same thing as cutepdf.

Yeah but PDF995 has all kinds of ads and popups and stuff, its really annoying.

Yes, you are quite right. Pardon my misunderstanding of your last reply. I actually did read it, but I was confused because in your 1st reply it seemed like you were adamant about using only Acrobat cause you said, "You do do need adobe acrobat to make .pdf's." I mean, you stated do twice so I thought you were just emphatic about using only Acrobat. But, I see now that you can use the other program. That was the info I was looking for. Thanks. My question got lost in the confusion.

I use OpenOffice.Org to do it...I actually use OOo instead of Office completely now. Never look back, it's very easy to save a document as a PDF. I do it all the time :)
