View Full Version : MyServerNow.com
SigilStudios 02-19-2004, 10:44 AM How is MyServerNow.com with there AUP?
I have servers in the US that have been temporarily shut off due to customers hosting an MP3 or two.
To me this is completly unacceptable.
Also, can anyone give me any other opinions on the company, the datacenter they use and the bw they provide?
Thanks

Why is that unacceptable? Every company I've seen doesn't allow MP3s.
I haven't heard any bad things about MyServerNow, they're in Montreal, I seem to ping about 30 to them (I'm in Toronto). They've got good prices, their support seems pretty solid, and they seem competent. They should be great for people in Canada.
ruiner 02-19-2004, 11:10 AM I use myservernow.com and our customers are very happy with the service.
not sure what their policy is on 'mp3s' though, we only do game servers..

To shut you off?!
Apparently you and I have different fealings on serving customers. :)
I beleive a warning and a demand of removal of the content is fine. Shutting the server down = bad becasue downtime = bad.
Rahil 02-19-2004, 11:34 AM Oh, then that's a different story, sorry. Yes, they should give warnings, or in the worst case, turn the server back on once the customer has agreed to remove the unacceptable content.

And thats why I pray to the web hosting gods that people like you never go into the dedicated server business.
JRSEOMarketing 02-19-2004, 08:11 PM uncopyrighted, or mp3s copyrighted to you.. I don't see a problem with that. A rock band I was in a year back had all of our mp3s on a CI-Host server, they killed the account for mp3s... which was dumb.. they were "our" mp3s!

Too late. I already am and am pretty successful. So suck it up and move on!
Nessun 02-20-2004, 09:48 PM Rob mind giving us your company name so none of us ever sign up for you. Thanks in advance.
I expect a server company to work with me like I work with my customers. If I had a customer who had a mp3 on his site that wasnt allowed I would first attempt to contact them and then wait to see how things went if no reply after some time I would take actions to make sure the mp3 couldnt be accessed from people outside on the web until the customer contacted me but I would not take they're entire site offline unless this was more then a 1st offense.
illogix 02-20-2004, 10:23 PM I wouldn't do business with you neither Rob.
A least a removal notice, giving the customer 24h to remove the content would have been ok.
On a dedicated server, you can not assume that all of the content belongs to the server owner.
However, let's not forget that this is only one side of the story. We don't have MyServerNow's side of the server. We never know, they might have sent several warnings with no answer.

Mind if telling us which host you had in the US with such bad policy, so we all can avoid it in the future?
