Hi,

I hired a designer to make me a site, and its almost done.

I just have a question thats been bothering me a lot.

The designer told me I HAVE to use a font size of 1 or 2 and verdena.

He told me this after I tried using a bigger font, and what ended up happening is that all the images got sort of split apart. (I could use the bigger font, but I can fit in very very little then. You need the smaller just to write some decent text. And some pages need the smaller font completely.)

So I am stuck with using this tiny font, and I can only fit so much per page before it begins to break apart. Also, some of the pages have images on them, so there is only a tiny text portion on top. If I type more then it fits, it breaks up all the images.

My question is, is this something that could have been avoided? Is it the result of bad coding / slicing or something? Because I am sure there are website that kind of stretch and spread apart, the more you put into them.

Anyway, please let me know..its very annoying. Thanks.

Can't really say without looking at the code. but this probably could have been avoided...

If its a layout, maybe you can do the text in the size/font you want and save it as a .gif as well?

Yes it is a wrong coding. If template has been coded right you can apply any font/size.

From what u said I think your problem has more to do with the layout of the web site then with the coding... probably you have the wrong layout for your needs.

I don't know how the site looks like but probably you could use some IFRAME/ILAYER to place the content as you want in the current layout, of course that depends on the design and how it affects it.

yep, there is something definately wrong. by limiting it to a certain font/size (especially if its a small font) then you will run into problems when your visitors increase the font and ruin the layout. The text should be resizable and not mess with the layout.

I must agree with everybody else and say this could have been avoided..

Without seeing the layout or the code its hard to say where the 'error' lies. However from experiance any site that uses image slices that are pieced back together using a tablebased layout (or even css for that matter) is prone to things seperating. my only solution and way i have found to fully get around this sort of thing is to use whole unsliced images and using a layout sheme that is much more forgiving with reguards to expanding such as css.
BTW: most websites are made with sliced images and are table based. However an experianced designer would have been able to foresee this issue or at least be able to restructure the site to accomidate you, the site owner.

sometimes error with graphics and fonts in tables cannot be easily avoided, but usualy where text is involved someone with marginal skill can generaly make a decent design.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Is there any thing I can do now?

you can ask your designer some help. If he/she can not fix all errors (not all designers are good webmasters) you can hire someone and pay ~$25-35 for coding . There are some good webmasters around who can help you.

Best of luck,
Nat

p.s. Don't use iframe's if your site is not a personal page. Unprofessional looking.

Thanks marengo.

About the iframes...I also wish to avoid them, as I feel the same way.

Is there anyone you or anyone else would reccomend? It's not an amazingly complex site...but it does have a flash header.

The lower in price the better, as the site itself is costing a nice amount...but I suppose I can do 25-30. But if I pay, I really need the problems fixed, I cannot pay for nothing.

New thread in the "Templates/Graphics Offers and Requests " forum can help you. :) Also you can ask visio, he is a good guy.
