I was surfing the net the other day and got a reminder of what my biggest pet peeve is!

I HATE WEBSITES WITH MIDI'S PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND!!!!

I just hate it with a passion. I mean, why put music on your site. Especially that terrible midi sound. It sounds like a 5 year olds' toy piano from WalMart.

Arrggghhhh

Anyway, just venting.

But midis are sooooooooo cool! hehe. I have one on my page playing... though I'm going to adjust it with some cookies and stuff so guests can pick the song or just have it turned off. I do agree somewhat though. I hate when the midis sound like someone is play the music one note at a time and it just sounds like a bunch of beeps.

I used to run a web site where one of 35 random midis would play. If you wanted to, you could click the "stop music" button and then it would all end. :)

I didn't get many complaints ... :)

MIDIs suck.

They rank right up there with flash intros.

When you get down to it, everything is just to add a little something else to the page. If we have to kill the midis and flash intros, then why not the whole page altogether! The whole point of a lot of this is to have fun and be creative... I'll admit there are some really really annoying midis out there, but then again there are some awsome ones as well. I guess it all comes down to the eye of the beholder (btw, the movie "Eye of the Beholder" sucked).

in this case, the ear of the beholder, eh?

I think I have to agree, but truthfully, I always have my sound off, and have a high speed connection, so I never really notice it. There is nothing so sweet as going to a geocities personal page, and viewing rotating hearts and teddy bears while listening to a note-by-note midi love song.

The very first site i made 4 years ago on Geocities had midi songs of some pretty cool songs of all kinds, but even 4 years ago i put them all in their own section and let people CHOOSE whether or not to play them while they were surfing my site.

Here it is, a 4 year old relic that hasn't been changed....lol

But hey...i got a few more pet peeves that i myself made....like that "good-bye" pop-up i put there, never again!
And the alert that tells them what screen size i WANT THEM to change to, that was pretty stupid of me, i don't even "recommend" screen sizes anymore, i make them all in percentages to fit any screen 100% (http://www.pureideasplus.com)...a little harder but worth it.

Greg,

Yep. I just visited your site and was greeted with:
"Your screen resolution is set at 800x600. Please set it to 800x600 if it isn't already."
I thought it was meant to be funny (ducking) until I went back and re-read your post.

Anyway, from a quick look-see, I think I found a small treasure there--useful stuff, neatly organized. Will return. Thanks.

(umm.."quick look-see"?...Don't think I'll be asked by the Atlantic to do regular work anytime soon, although Time may be on my side...oh boy, another groaner...got to get off...lie down and listen to the Stones and count my fingers or something.)
