I want to purchase either Macromedia or Photoshop to help me design websites. I have a question....which one is better?

I dont know HTML very well....I do have a software that can take anything and put in into HTML.

Do either Macromedia or Photoshop offer templates or do you have to do the websites in HTML?

I appreciate anyone that can help me.

Jason

Oh yeah......if someone knows of any other website design software please let me know also.

Beforehand, which Macromedia product are you referring to - Fireworks? Neither product offers templates.

If you're referring to Dreamweaver, then it's a different type of product from Photoshop. Photoshops is for graphisc while Dreamweaver for layout. Both are needed (although you can always replace Dreamwevaer with a cheap alternative like Notepad). If you don't know HTML, you can use the WYSIWYG tool that comes with Dreamweaver.

Similar products to Dreamweaver are Microsoft FrontPage and Adobe GoLive. GoLive is better than FrontPage, but Dreamweaver is better than both of these in terms of quality of code and other features.

Photoshop is only for graphics. It will allow you to create an HTML file but you cannot open an HTML file - you will only be able to open image files.

Consider DW for HTML & do learn HTML. I use Photoshop usually for all my images.

Dreamweaver is what most companies use for desiging web pages, so would be a good choice so you know what your doing if you get employed in the future at such a company. Photoshop is the only option i see for graphic design.

Dreamweaver is good for HTML only, but if you are looking to do some graphic works as well, go for Photoshop.

this is a question that will never be answered fully. it's all a matter of opinion and your skill level (in my opinion). for more advanced, i'd say go with photoshop. for soemthing to get stuff out of the way without much thinking, i'd say macromedia.

i personally prefer photoshop, as i've found there's not one thing it can't do (outside of washing my dishes anyways)

When I do web design, I will need photoshop to edit the image and dreamweaver to do the coding.

Photoshop, I don't think it can offer template.

Dreamweaver has some basic templates.
Dreamweaver is the best for someone who doesn't know HTML.
And if you aren't already using Photoshop, then I'd say you'll be better off using a simple image editing program to cut your images.
Paying for extras you won't be using doesn't make much sense.
