View Full Version : I would like some advice on a high bandwidth host please.
aggro 02-18-2004, 12:32 AM I have a site that has exponentially outgrown our last two hosts in a very short time, and would lke some advice on what to do in my situation.
I run a website based on video downloads (not pornography) and we need to find a decent dedicated provider that can handle our site, but provide a reasonable price also.
We have peaked at as much as 25mbps, and are averaging around 12.6mbps - now they capped us at 10mbps, so the site is running slow, which is unacceptable - yet understandeable.
Pushing about 3000 Gigabytes per month in bandwidth...
We're looking for Linux RH9/Cpanel/WHM solution to run the site from. We'll also need a P4 2.0 or above with 1024k of RAM. Does anyone have an affordable recommendation by chance?
Thank you in advance!
RSanders 02-18-2004, 12:48 AM What's 'affordable' to you?
MStar 02-18-2004, 12:49 AM I suggest you go from 1024k ram to 1024mb :)
Sometimes getting a few 1000gb servers from providers is the best answer.
E-mail companies that offer dedicateds, Most will be happy to help you find a solution.
wheimeng 02-18-2004, 12:51 AM Maybe you can get one powerful server with 2 low end servers in SM.
OR check out offrack.com and upgrade the bandwidth usage :)

DUH on me... lol.
Thanks, guys.
I presume there's no way our site is going to be able to afford the server that we need, because we don't bring in much income. Only around $500 monthly.
Crap... :(
MStar 02-18-2004, 12:54 AM $300/mo would get you 20mbps at FDCServers.net

Please link me to where you found that out at, because I can't find it, and the page I found says $749 for 20mbit
Thank you
RSanders 02-18-2004, 01:00 AM For $500, I would say look for a HE or Cogent reseller here on the boards. They should be able to meet your pricing without pulling anything funny.

I would strongly advice you not to move to them if you are looking for high burstable bandwidth because they have traffic shaping which might affect your performance during peak hour.
Offrack seems to provide very decent price in terms of bandwidth, not to mention they have PEER1 bandwidth in San Jose.
ToddW 02-18-2004, 01:15 AM AM I the only one wondering what kind of site needs this traffic?

WOW I did, I must have skipped that whole line! LOL, doing some classwork and reading forum at the same time is apparntly dangerous.
Cool, what video site do yourun? I run 2 video sites... right now hovering around 1TB or less a month.
RSanders 02-18-2004, 01:35 AM Heh, we have some adult video clients that have clusters because of the traffic. But, there moving close to 30TB, not 3 ;)
kneadingu 02-18-2004, 07:02 PM Do you need managed or unmanaged servers?
jasoncart 02-19-2004, 10:46 AM Superbservers have some deals on unmetered servers at the moment (checkout the dedicated server advertising forum, or do a search). I've used them for a while with video & download sites that sound similiar to your.
