This may be obvous and stupid but remember, I am a newbie ...

I registered a domain with uk2.net using web-direction to my ntlworld free account. I have now acquired an account on planet2net.com and have set up my domain to be transferred.

However, on checking the uk2.net their pages say it'll cost me £19 to transfer my domain (19 quid i dont have). Or I can upgrade to DNS management and point my domain to the new planet2net.com account (which will cost £1.50 a month - again which i dont have).

What are my options? Will it work if i enter the planet2net.com name servers?

Anyhelp appreciated...
Matty

Is your host asking for the domain to be transferred to them or are they asking you to alter the Nameserver settings?

If it's the transfer to them, then be careful. There is no reason for a host to demand that a domain be transferred to them... this also means that they can charge you whatever they want in the future to renew the domain!

If it's the altering of the Nameservers, then unfortunately you made a bad choice in buying your domain from UK2.Net... it seems that they charge £1.21 per month for changing "DNS records on our nameservers, including the MX record for mail exchange or add more subdomains." Bit of a raw deal

The host isn't demanding that I transfer (it is free to transfer to them anyway) nor are they asking to alter the DNS settings.

Bit of a raw deal is right, seemed good to begin with. And I was warned off uk2.net _after_ i had registered. he he.

Since I have absolutely no money at all, and don't expect to have any spare cash (to spend on hosting issues) in the near future I'm guessing the best I can do is stay with uk2.net and use the webdirection (as I am now, but point it to the address of my new space).

No biggie I suppose,
