I have just ordered a server from server matrix, and it has been set up. I got the welcome message and anyways, Server Matrix provided 2 IP's that I can use for nameservers. My original plan was to use my first 2 IP's for nameservers. Would it be better to use Server Matrix's (off server then) or to stick with creating my own. If I use SM's, will it pose any complications in the future? As well, I got cPanel with the server so if I were to setup nameservers, would I provide then the 2 IP's SM gave me?

And just to others: What do you do? Use the Datacenters IP's or use your own?

Use the Datacenters IP's.

Another thing im wondering is if you MUST wait the 36 hours till your nameservers are totally registered before starting to setup nameservers in cPanel. (At http://www.hostinglife.com/dns.php they say to wait)

Will I have problems if I try to setup the nameservers and it hasent been 34-48 hours and the total propagation hasent gone through?

I used theirs if I were you. At least you get true redundancy.

You could set up your nameservers in Cpanel/WHM before it is propagation. In fact, you should or else after propagation, it has no where to point to.

Well, im going with server matrix's nameservers. I have submitted a ticket for the DNS change request so they add my domain.

Now, say in the future I have someone with a reseller account wanting to have their own nameservers. Could they point their nameservers at the 2 servermatris ips, and then do I have to submit another DNS change request so that they add that domain as well?

All sites on your servers are your responsibility so you have no problem submitting any DNS change for your customers at SM DNS. The only thing is that all IP address must be hosted within SM's network.

Or you could split the IP's. We use 1 of ours and 1 of theres. This way we have the primary NS and can make all of our DNS changes and their being secondary should pick it up for redundancy.

well it is not a must that you wait, mainly that site is for new server admin where in WHM if you add the NS it wont show it is proppagated and it wont point to an ip so that where the new admins get confused.

Well, ive been talking with support at SM, and anyways I would have to submit a DNS change each time I add a new site. DNS Server updates are done every 6 hours: 00:00, 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00 CDT

For me, having to submit and wait 6 hours might be a bit of a bother. Using 1 of their IP's and 1 of mine may work. Though, id still have to submit each domain, but there wouldnt be as much of a rush to do it.

There are alternatives to configure and setup your resellers on the server so that there will be no trace back to the Host where the reseller gets his hosting from and anyone doing a search on the IPs or the reseller's nameservers will all point/lead to the datacenter.

In this regard, any search will not reveal the server hostname or the reseller's upstream host and this is preferable for a reseller as it will give the impression the reseller has his own server.
