Actually, it's funny you mention it. It seems like a huge majority of female sys admins (Both Windows and *nix) I've come across have been absolutely gorgeous - many in the range of "She wouldn't spit on me even if I was on fire and the last man on earth" variety.

You should check out thinkgeek.com and look at the women's shirts - they have a photo gallery of users wearing there gear, and there's some hotties there!

I can personally vouch that they do exist. My ex girlfriend was a netbsd freak. Absolutely gorgeous ... I'm not going to put a picture up here -- too public. She was out of my league as far as looks. :D

Women who enter a man's world (as computers, networking and automechanics are generally considered), are usually confident and intelligent and unafraid: gorgeous chicks learn these traits early in life.

Shy, bashful (aka mutt) girls will enter such worlds only if they are lucky enough to gain prowess (aka knowledge) and feel a strong ability to compete in that world, and with that, their PROFESSIONAL confidence rises even if their SOCIAL confidence remains low key due to their appearance.


Be careful of messing with these girls (mutts who are good in the office) on a social level. They can be rattlesnakes if they feel you have become 'close' to them and then back off as they attempt to drive the relationship to the bedroom.

I remember this 200lb bowling ball of a boss who was really kewl until I became her friend and then she wouldn't stop hitting on me. She was good in her position but a pain as a love hound and eventually hurled the axe at me when I refused to sack her in Monterey on a 'company' trip to audit an HMO... jeeez, the nerve.

I also know a somewhat attractive, but not overly so, high ranking gal at Cisco who says she hires lovers the same way she hires consultants for Cisco... get the picture? She is probably very good at what she does as she wasn't laid off in that nasty round of downsizing but I haven't seen her with too many dates around town (I see her a lot with girlfriends) and wouldn't want to be the consultant she had decided no longer fit her gameplan.


...So, back to hot network admin chicks: when you see a girl surfing, tuning a fuel injected dragster (I dated a waitress who had one and she was sooooo hot) or doing network admin work up to her elbows, there is a good chance that she is either gorgeous and confident (sometimes cocky ... so what?) or someone who may lack physical charm but you could probably learn a lot from her because she is a bad mofo admin who can hold her own in any 911 situation.


Either way works for me but as they say, do you want to stick your finger in that pie at the expense of the contract or client or job?


Compliment them...great. Become too close and you may find that you either have to deliver (in which case when she is tired of you, you are outta there) or she may grind the axe in your direction when you back up a few steps to maintain 'professionalism'.


Question: would you sleep with a total hottie who was your boss if you were working on the total dream project that took you years to get onboard?
