Hi There,

I'd delete my earlier post (web.log), however I am unable to do so.

Upon closer examination, none of my log files are updating... not the mail, ftp or the web log files. This stopped on the 6th of October. This is the day that I installed a bunch of patches from the Cobalt web site.

Are there any known issues with some of these patches with regard to the log files?

Thanks,

-dr

Almost an understatement, heh. Yes, one of the things the patches have been known to do is break something, though I'm not sure which patches are known to cause problems with what. Surely not out of the question.

I called Cobalt and their $95 per incedent tech person. However before hand I asked whether I would have to pay if it wasn't my fault and actually the fault of the patch.

I waited on hold for 30 minutes, after which I was able to leave a message. The tech guy phoned me back within 5 minutes of leaving the message. Apparantly there is no one in the office and he was paged at home. Why didn't the person who took my credit card number and patched me through mention this? And why did the message keep saying "A technition will be with you shortly" for 30 minutes?

When it was all said and done there was a problem with apache... aparently there were 2 apache files (I am not sure what he meant) and anyhow, he fixed it and rotated the logs which appears to have gotten everything working again (although I am not sure about the ftp.logs).

Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow all my log files will have been processed and I will have stats again.

Bottem line is that they fixed their problem with my machine. I will sleep well tonight.

Something had screwed up when I installed on the the patches and there was an extra file or something sitting there. The guy was pretty vague so I am not sure what it was or how to fix it. It took the guy probably 15 minutes to fix the problem.

Sorry I can't say more then that.
