Do a search on the forum. There has to be at least 50 threads with "free control panel" in it.

It should be simple also, so that person with little technical background can also handle it ; )

There are many free useful programs at SourceForge (sourceforge.net). For example, I found good File Manager - "Quixplorer".

I've installed "webmin".But it is much more powerful than what I required. It gives total control of my system to others I know I can customize it, but it has one more minus pt it runs it's own web server (in perl), it could be plus point if I'm willing to use all features.

What I'm looking for is a stripped down version of cpanel are some thing like :penguin: OK :gthumb:

I don't see anything bad that webmin is running its mini HTTP server... Webmin comes with its own HTTP server because it can stop / start / restart HTTP. PLUS if HTTP is down, webmin can still run because it doesn't rely on the HTTP server.

I've never used CPanel before but I think it also have its own HTTP server cos I see the demo also have the option to restart HTTP service.

Yes. Cpanel uses it's own http server.

What is "some thing"? You have to be more specific for us to help you. In any case, you can just choose not to use functions that you don't need isn't it?

add usermin to webmin and you've got a pretty good *free* control panel

I followed instructions from:

swelltech.com/support/virtual-servers/index.html

and I culd not make virtualmin working. I was able to do it all with exeptions of:

“LoadModule suexec_module modules/mod_suexec.so
However, things may get a bit trickier, because we plan to put the web root for each new virtual domain user into the /home directory. The SuExec module requires the base directory to be specified at build time for security reasons...if you compile from source, you've probably already thought of this. If you use RPMs, you'll need to rebuild from the SRPM with the suexec docroot altered to point to /home. For example, my SPEC file has the following in the configure section:
--with-suexec-docroot=/home \

I just have not clue how to do that. If you successfully installed virtualmin, please share the wealth!
Webmin is very nice piece of software. I just have hard time with virtualmin.
Regards
Jacek

I do know that the bankio Hosting CP is easy to setup while only been stable and developed for Redhat Linux 9.0

Many people say that Redhat 9.0 is very unstable...I have found it fine for a web based hosting platform as well as a Samba Logon Domain.

Also VHCS i have tried to install and have many problems with the
./vhcs2-setup app to configure and run the CP properly...

Futher more i think bankio and VHCS2 are good you just need good knolage to install them. Finding and installing the required software to support these CPS is found hard.

While Webmine and usermin are very simple to install. Also Very simple to configure and maintain.

I would go with the Webmin & Virtualmin, they are not so hard to install and you get a totally FREE cpanel for your server websites.

We had it running for over 1 year on our servers and it went really smooth ( apply updates, take care of security issues and it's ok - and FREE )

Also there is Bankoi web hosting panel for Linux somwhere on the web , I know a friend of mine is very active on their forums.

But how, how did you do it! (Virtualmin installation).

Just like they say on their website:

"Installation of the module itself is straight-forward. If you have never installed Webmin before, you will want to refer to the Book of Webmin for full documentation. After Webmin installation, browse to the Webmin:Webmin Configuration:Webmin Modules module. There you can install the module."

So you must first install Webmin and then it's very simple to add the VirtualMin module. Read the documentation otherwise you can't do it.
