After searching for 2 weeks, I'm no closer to finding a cheaper replacement for Rackspace. Rackspace have served me well, but not only are they expensive, but to upgrade from my 2 year old hardware is not a one-off cost, but a large increase in monthly cost, which really isn't good economics when you've got a fast-growing site.

It looked good when I found pwebtech.com , who have been recommended by a number of people here. But their dedicated server config page gives a 404 error, and messages to them requesting a quote have gone unanswered :(

I also got a suggestion to try BurstNET. But an email requesting a quote sent last week is as yet unanswered. :(

We're a fast growing site. We need new boxen on-line within 24 hours every time. We don't need any technical support, and we can install our own software. We just need a reliable network, and people who get new servers online fast, and who bill accurately and fairly. Is there anyone other than Rackspace who can do this?

We've been using dialtone (http://www.dialtone.com) as a rackspace alternative for a couple months now and have had good results.

They were/are very responsive with us. Offers online chat and will get back w/ you very promptly in our experience.

I personally handle almost all of the dedicated server and co-lo quotes for BurstNET...and I currently am not aware of any outstanding quotes requested...especially not that old. We never leave potential sales hanging like that...so I think there may be something misplaced/un-delivered somewhere.
Please email me directly at sean@burst.net and I will be more than happy to assist you, and make sure you get your quote ASAP.

There you go again... making excuses. I have never seen anyone make more excuses than you. Sean, do a search on this board and read all of your replies. It is really very comical about how many times you do not have recods of what people send you. Tsk Tsk..

You know nothing about our company. If you did, you would know that all emails to sales@burst.net go into a support ticket system. If an email was sent requesting a quote, and we received such, THERE MUST be a ticket number associated with it. I have looked and not found any outstanding quote requests. As mentioned, it is possible once in awhile that a email or a ticket can slip thru the system, and I did nothing more than offer to personally help this individual with his request.
There is nothing more proper that I could do to assist this individual.

gotham30: Sometimes this happens, no ticket system is perfect and no company is perfect. Sometimes tickets gets close prematurely, tickets don't get into the system, sometimes respones dont' get send to the client.

These things happen, every company especially larger ones have alot clients and email and sales/support requests to deal with. And if you don't get a response back in 24 hours assume one of the above things has happened and try an alternate contact method phone, and icq work great.

Example what to do if ticket is lost or don't get a reponse.

Customer:
"Hey i sent in ticket #58345 can you look at it please it is most urgent"

Support/Sales:
"Sure, what can else can I do for you Mr. Customer"

It really is simple as that.

Just my two cents.

Jay:

I understand completely. What I don't understand is why EVERY time Sean comes in here, he is defending something that someone is saying to him. He is full of excuses ALL THE TIME. Not once, not twice but 99.87% of his posts are saying things like..."We have no record"

As jayglate said, it could be that he simply doesn't have a record of the correspondence. Happens to the best of us. Honest. :)

I am not here to defend sean. Sean and burst have done a fine job. I am here to defend the industry of mid-size hosting companies (i.e. less than 100,000 domains).

Pwebtech is the best of out

-Burst

in my opinion......

1) ED (their VP) treats you nice and he is very friendly instead of being nice and after he gets your money, you get ingored (trust me... I was a victim from a company like that before).

2) Not only that they do not use their website's business plan (as in pricing), you can ask and negotiate pricing and custom quotes as well. Also, setup fees can either be extended or shrinked :D .

3) They can be expensive compared to others but you get what you pay for.

My 2 cents.

gotham30, I wish someone would have reported your post, rather than comment on it, so it could have been removed. Now, the aim is not to remove posts (don't start), but when someone says they contacted a host and the host replies that they've looked and can't find the email and to contact them directly, there is *no* need for flaming posts like yours.

Let people search the forum and make up their own minds about hosts, and stop trying to flame people in the middle of unrelated threads.

Edit: I also notice these posts come after you asking for (in theory) impartial information about BurstNET in another thread. I get the feeling this is only yet another attempt by you to flame them and will be tossing that one. You seem to already have your opinions formed and there's no need to waste people's time then, eh?

Members, please report this stuff, once everyone comments on it, it is harder to remove, if not impossible. Thankx. If it isn't reported, we assume no one has a problem with it and we'll try to leave it alone.

Sorry for the tangent about a tangent... please continue with the thread topic.

You should also check Ventures Online (http://www.vebturesonline.com) .

I am a reseller for VO for about 3 months and during this time they have been
very professional, with almost zero downtime and very responsive on tech support issues.
They are probably the only host that you will find nothing but praise on this board.

I just ordered my first dedicated server from them after debating moving to a cheaper host.
At the end of the day, knowing that you have a solid team behind you is worth more than saving a few dollars.

Our experience with pweb is that they take a VERY LONG time to respond to issues. Especially when compared to dialtone and rackspace.

We find that they are often "very busy." Since we have never had a server go down, we don't know how they would respond in an emergency.

Having said that, we have found that their network is reliable.

If you really don't care about tech suppprt and want something inexpensive, then pweb might not be a bad way to go. If you really want a 'professional' company in the sense that rackspace is professional--something like http://www.dialtone.com is more what you're looking for.

Pegasus might take long sometimes, since they are always busy. :) Though, they have always helped me with my problems, not one problem that wasn't fixed.

My server is located at equinix - ~100% uptime for the past two months. :D *knocks on wood*

Jay knows his stuff. ;)

I actually sent it directly to you (sean@burst.net) after you PM'd me last week to offer your services and you suggested that I should email you directly if I had any questions. I didn't cc sales@burst.net but I will this time.

I hope hosting vendors reading this recognise that for fast-growing companies like ours response time in adding new servers is a key differentiating factor (when we have to wait for new servers to come online our customers are waiting on over-taxed servers to respond). I'm not complaining--I run a business too and I know how hard it is; this is just some friendly feedback :)

Dialtone can get servers up and running in less than 24hrs... At least they say they can. They did ours in just a few hours.

You might want to check out Internet Express. I have the $49/mo RaQ3 w/50GB xfer with them, and I am thrilled. I bought another 256MB RAM for $15 and had it shipped to them, they put it in (for free) the day it arrived - AFTER calling me and asking if there was a specific time of the day or night I wanted the server taken down.

Last Sunday I emailed them at 1am CST and asked for a manual re-boot (I crashed the server messing with MySql) and they emailed me back within 5mins and said it was done.

I'm going to get another one before they go away :-)

Hi,

I can provide some information to you to see if Verio/NTT would be a good fit. Not sure however, as everyone here seems to think Rackspace is very expensive.

Regards,

MSC
