IF anyone has done a recovery and came across this:

"Kernel Panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 03:01"

help would be appreciated!

Try to boot your local computer from a different cd-rom-drive or from a different machine. That solved the problem for me.

Ive tried booting from three different machines, with all different network connections:
Direct connect
hub and connected through a switch
nothing works

I have used two os restore disks as well, and nothing.

All machines match req. on the list on the inside cover of the cd.
Have also connected
dirrect (crossover cable)
trough a hub and a switch (straight through cable)
and get the same response
