View Full Version : EFS again
microsol 10-16-2001, 10:20 AM Does anybody have tried to get some PowerApp servers from EFS?
I have the feeling that they can't or don't want to comply their offers. Why do i have the strange feeling that anytime ordering a Dell server or just asking questions they want to push me to buy the server myself and into colocation instaed of lease to own as it is offered on their website?
microsol 10-16-2001, 06:39 PM Looks like they have financial problems as i don't think Dell has problems to fill stock.
My apology with the delay in responding to your email, but after checking
with my management team, it does not look like we will be able to provide
you with a Dell PowerApp server by November 15. There are at least 15
customers waiting for the same server and we're doing everything possible
to meet fulfill their orders. As I've mentioned before, the most
cost-efficient route to take is for you to purchase the server from Dell
and co-locate with us for just $199.00 / month with 200GB of burstable
bandwidth and no contract.
Warm Regards,

ReliableServers 10-16-2001, 06:45 PM I dont know about financial trouble, but Dell does take for ever to get their servers out. I know people who wait weeks to get a server once they have placed an order.
UmBillyCord 10-16-2001, 06:58 PM efs is not a large company. Maybe they ran out of money to be used to purchase new servers. Even with Cogent, their margins are slim. Just a wild guess.
AussieHosts 10-16-2001, 08:03 PM EFS might not be a large company, but they are leaps and bounds ahead of any other provider we have ever dealt with in 3 years.
But that aside...we're aware of supply problems with Dell down here as well. We have spoken to many dedicated/co-lo providers about the Dell PowerApp and everyone raves about it, but we're yet to find anyone with one (or even a live demo).
We've spoken with Dell here in Australia, and they're not even too sure of the features of the admin tool that is apparently installed on the PowerApp.
Does the box actually exist? :-)

cbaker17 10-16-2001, 08:23 PM We order those server from dell all the time and have never had one single problem ever getting them in a timely fashion, efs must be blowing smoke up your butt
AussieHosts 10-16-2001, 08:41 PM Your dedicated servers page is under construction Charles. I'm keen to see your lease prices, if you have those handy.
What's your delivery time for the PowerApp?
Regards
Gary
RackMy.com 10-16-2001, 09:14 PM I dont know about financial trouble, but Dell does take for ever to get their servers out. I know people who wait weeks to get a server once they have placed an order.I can tell you that we place orders every week and they usually ship 1 day after the order is placed (sometime same day) and at the most, 2 days after our order. He have never had a problem with Dell, even during the Sept. 11 tragedy.
Not sure if that means anything :)
cbaker17 10-16-2001, 10:05 PM Weve been selling dedicated servers at dtwebworks.com for awhile now, we dont have our affordableservers.net up yet because wer getting ready to launch all new sites and services.
I can get you powerapps immed. if thats what your wanting, send me a email with what you want and ill be more than happy to quote you a price.
It wont be as cheap as efreeservers ill let you know right now, but of course it costs us money to provide you with quality bandwidth :)

wise1 10-20-2001, 06:50 AM What's up, :)
You ever consider that EFreeServers buys their servers in bulk? They are probably waiting to get enough orders in so that they can make a bulk purchase and get a nice discount. ;) They are probably up to their neck in debt just as every other new company and are looking for a way to cut costs. 50 or so high power servers sitting around a warehouse doing nothing is additional overhead that most companies don't want. That's just my opinion I could be wrong. :)
Peace

RackMy.com 10-20-2001, 09:30 AM bulk purchase and get a nice discountYou really don't get a "bulk discount" from Dell, they do things a little differently. You get discounts based upon what level partner you are with them and it's progressive, not calculated by "bulk" orders.
Planet Z 10-20-2001, 11:56 AM I too am curious as to where EFS is getting all their money from. It takes a while to recover the $1,000+ investment made in a server when you're only charging $300 a month w/ no setup fee and also giving away a lot of bandwidth.
I'm thinking there's going to be a point where they simply won't be able to afford to buy new servers until their monthly revenue rebuilds their cash reserves.
AussieHosts 10-20-2001, 12:31 PM They wouldn't be "giving away a lot of bandwidth" until the client is using it. :-)
Cheers

When I asked them how long they told me at least 5 weeks to get a server

RackMy.com 10-21-2001, 10:47 PM When I asked them how long they told me at least 5 weeks to get a server The delay is not from Dell. :)
I think their problem is that they need to recover some of their costs for the servers.
Since, they have to put the money up front for the servers.. it is costly for them.
AussieHosts 10-22-2001, 12:52 AM I can't comment on the proviosing of these servers in the US. Some say they can deliver overnight. Many hosts say they can't deliver Dells overnight. Some take a few days to deilver a RaQ. Some do it within 24 hours.
The same applies here though in AU. Different providers seem to have different delivery capabilities.
The fact that EFS can deliver a RaQ reasonable quickly sort of blows the argument away that they are in any sort of financial dire straits. It looks more to me to be related to the provision of Dells, at least through their own supply chain.
Whatever the reason...we've asked around and know who can
deliver what and how quickly. We don't bother wasting our time speculating or pondering over why it is so...we just make that note and carry on.
Cheers
