One of my clients wants to know which shopping cart software is the best. User-friendly, good features, no bugs, etc...

Any suggestions?

You might want to look at OSCommerce:

http://www.oscommerce.com/

A lot of people have good luck with it, though it takes a little while to get your head around the system.

I would agree osCommerce is very good, and is the cart of choice for a lot of our clients.

However, "which shopping cart software is the best" is simply a matter of opinion, as different people have different needs. While one may find a particular app easy to work with, another may find it hard, etc...

Hello,

If, by chance, you are looking for ASP, I would recommend you look at candypress.com. I know of several developers who work w/ and like this application a lot. osCommerce is also a very nice shopping cart. osCommerce is very powerful and does require a fair amount of work to modify and design.

You may want to search through this forum in depth, as it is MHO that eCommerce requires a fair amount of planning, design, setup, etc. It would be nice, also, if you get a lot of replies to this post from hosts, developers, designers, etc. who may want to share some experiences re triumphs, pitfalls, etc. when working w/ shopping carts.

Good luck!

Moved to ECommerce. As suggested look at osCommerce. Also try zencart, which was created by part of the osCommerce team.

Oscommerce (http://oscommerce.com/) is solid because it has a lot of features and a huge community.

If you are looking for something more browswer compliant, check out Zen Cart (http://zencart.com/). A few core developers from oscommerce moved to Zen after slow progress.

At this point I would recommend osCommerce MS2 over ZenCart simply because ZenCart has just moved into its beta stage. Because of this you'll find not many community contributions and hacks have been ported over. I have asked the ZenCart team about porting some of my contributions over and was advised to hold off doing so until ZenCart reached a more stable release (what I took to mean as until it was out of its alpha and beta stages; it has just recently moved from alpha to beta). Also, if you check out the ZenCart forum, you'll notice that since it is only a beta, a good number of bug reports are coming in. osCommerce has a good number of bug reports as well, however most of these are for CVS releases and they have a stable milestone release recommended for production use, which is why I would currently recommend osCommerce over ZenCart. Not saying one is better than the other and I am in no position to make that statement; I am just saying that for production sites, one has a stable milestone release for production use while the other is still in its early beta stage.
