Hi ya

After all my problems were fixed, I am now impressed with the speed of the server!

Tested on ftp.uu.net

My Server @ Serverhost
ncftp / > get uumap.tar.Z
Result: 8.13 MB @ 2.47 MB/s

My Server @ Ventures Online/Verio
ncftp / > get uumap.tar.Z
Result: 8.13 MB 445.08 kB/s

Thanks Jeffrey!

Yep www.serverhost.com is the URL - but no site is up.

He is having a new site redone for him but due to his illness he hasn't been about much.

If you need to reach him, you can do so here jeffrey.kehe@plusweb.com or look for jkehe on here

Where is your server located?

it's located at the Atlanta NOC - think using Cogentco backbone (don't quote me on that ;))

Tracing route to insomnia.pcnoc.net [209.51.136.157]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

That doesnt seem to fast.

I mean it leaves your pc fast, but hits above net and cogent and slows down alot.

Fast would be about 50-60ms

Cogent doesnt impress me

I ping my servers at about 40ms.

I am pinging this domain at about plusweb.com at about 100ms

As i said cogent doenst impress me, overall its cheap, and not even close to quality bandwidth

This never ends. You've expressed your opinions a number of times, and personally I'm a little sick of hearing them.

Jeff,

I noticd the above traceroute states that the connection was using cogent and had 5 Star Communications name in the host name...I'm a bit curious about that. I asked you before and you said they are in the same NOC? Just curious because they provided me with the worst service in my history of being a web hosting customer (5 years now).

We are a customer of DV2, who Fivestar is also a customer of, and they have an arrangement with Fivestar to use their Cogent connection until Cogent gets around to turning up our (Plusweb/Serverhost) Cogent connection.

Downloading uumap.tar.Z at 2.47MB/s is indeed fast. Considering it's cogent, I am impressed ... I wonder how fast will you be able to download that file ... Well, you may say that this does not mean anything ... so does ping time ... If I have to choose between fast download and fast ping times, I will choose fast download ... who would ever know 100ms difference in ping time? But people will know the difference between 400KBps download and 24000KBps download!

cheers,

Also that tracert was from my PC which is in the UK and on a 64K ISDN line :)

The ping times are the same for this server as it is for the VO one.

And for me, the speed is very good - fast downloads and uploads, fast www etc - not bad at all.

Not taking sides here but!

Ping times have alot to do with how close your located to the server its self.

Keep in mind every mile you have to travel and every router you have to go thru will slow speeds down some.

So most UK people will have better ping times to the east coast than to servers located in the west coast because theres 3000 less miles to travel.

On the same hand most Aussie people will have better pings to the west coast.

I guess its a toss up but keep in mind that just because you the owner of the servers have such great pings dose not mean that all your customers will get the same results.

Very true Paul.

I also go by support to, and VO have been nothing but fantastic there.

TBH as someone else said, users won't be able to tell the difference between 140ms and 180ms pings. Both servers are very fast =)
