i got one customer, he did some checking on my ip and he got a number that shows how many website hosted on my server, how he do it?

There is no real reason why not, unless you have something to hide or are ashamed of the figure ;)

what if i only hosted 200 websites but that number shows 400, do you expect the customer will believe i only host 200 at my server?

Maybe you have domain aliases or parked domains on the server, these would count as whois.sc runs by querying dns.

Well, if you have reseller accounts or shared ones with addon or parked domains then it can double easily ;)

It all depends on the domains themselves. While I may have over 150 domains on my server, whois.sc will only show a few of them, since several are add on domains, and are under reseller accounts, or are just parked. whois.sc isn't exactly 100% accurate.

You can not hide those stuff from a knowledgeble user..although you can make it difficult. More disturbing is the fact that on most control panels you can use http://ip/~adminname ( on ensim 3.1 it was http://ip/~admin1 to http://ip/~adminxxx as far as I remember ) and *see* all the sites hosted. That doesn't require much knowledge for user to figure out anyways. :D :stickout:

So I would suggest everyone not to hide anything from user and just tell him honestly how many sites etc you have. ;)

This will tell you how many domains have a certain nameserver listed, not how many customers or domains a company has.

he got it from my main server ip not nameserver, and can you access whois.cc/whois.sc?

i can't...try proxy later.

I can access http://whois.sc - it is up.

whois.cc doesn't work for me however, I don't think there is a site there.

That thing emails me every month, and every month that they have it's been off by a wide margin. Take it with a grain of salt :)
