Got kinda spoiled by the 5.99 thing last week. I've got 9.99 at my current registrar, anyone know of cheaper? webfors 10-05-2000, 03:17 PM That's the cheapest you'll find. Who is your current registrar? Beauzeau 10-05-2000, 04:27 PM Using gkg.net mainly. Did quite a few registrations through the 5.99 special at namebargain.com last week though. Hopefully, they will be sending me free domain offers ala register.com soon. diyoha 10-06-2000, 01:38 AM enom.com they offer domains at 6.95/domain/year you have to become a reseller. But that is not a problem since they do not enforce a minimum purchase or downpayment. i.e. once you signup as a reseller, you can start buying domains at that price. To sign up you have to go the the reseller area and send an email request to them later David schweiz 10-06-2000, 05:49 AM But this is the reply I get when I sent a query to enom asking about their resellers program... ===== Original Message From Matt Stearn <matt.stearn@enom.com> ===== If your price is $9.95 no pre-purchase is required. You only need to have enough money in your account to purchase your domains. Your balance can be zero before and after. If you want $6.95 you must deposit $6950 to pre-pay for 1000 domain years. After reading this about Enom and that price for domains, I sent them an email on 9/26 with this as the only question: "Ahhh, well I am looking for info as to the costs, etc.. of your reseller program. I'd like to install the software on my site. Currently I am considering OpenSRS, and a few others, but wanted to see what you have to offer" I resent it on 9/30 as I never heard back. I finally got a reply which said only: "Please download the software from http://www.enom.com/resellers.asp" I *knew* where the software was, he didn't BOTHER to answer my question, which annoyed me. I quoted the pricing on the enom website and asked, "If this is the best pricing you offer, then I don't see the need. Can you please provide pricing info for resellers or is this it?" A quick reply came stating: "The price is $7.95... All services are included at that price. There are no hidden fees or charges. The price is good for new registrations, transfers, and extensions." (This message was cut a bit, but I included all the important parts). So, which is it? $6.95, $7.95, $9.95, deposit, no deposit, a week for email support, quick support? Just from this initial experience, I get a bad feeling about dealing with enom. Anyone else? diyoha 10-06-2000, 09:42 AM Interesting. It shows how quickly things change. when I contacted them 1 month ago and signed up I was told 2 things 1. no minimum payment 2. the price would not change but as we can see they are as good as their word  Hopefully my account conditions remain the same  later David -Edward- 10-06-2000, 10:11 AM http://www.123reg.co.uk - 99p (about $1.60) but i havent read the hidden terms for like transferring and stuff/ schweiz 10-06-2000, 10:21 AM Guess they just cant make up their minds. Notice in their reply ... "You only need to have enough money in your account to purchase your domains. Your balance can be zero before and after." Totally obscure... if my balance was zero, how can I have "enough money" in my account? Perhaps the only service we can be sure they are offering: creating confusion. Blanket 10-06-2000, 10:29 AM Originally posted by Technics http://www.123reg.co.uk - 99p (about $1.60) but i havent read the hidden terms for like transferring and stuff/ about $1.60? wow that's cheap, and no doubt many and many pages of conditions in very fine print (probably at a size where you have to read it while you are squinting your eyes =P). I think most people knows that it costs ICANN registrars $6 for every domain name registered (it hasn't been changed right?), and obviously, if they want to stay in business, they have to sell it higher than $6. for me, I think I'll stick to paying $6.95 - $7.95 per domain name if I was registering in Bulk or $10 if I was to register just one name because I know that for that price, I'm not going to have that many hassles when it comes to transfers and stuff. ~~ Ever trying to find the right Balance between Price and Quality Service ~~ schweiz 10-06-2000, 10:36 AM Well, anything which is too good to be true isnt true. Here are their REAL prices: UK Domains 123-reg Fee ONLY 99p Registry Fee £2.50 Total (per year) £3.49 US Domains 123-reg Fee ONLY £3.29 Registry Fee £6.70 Total (per year) £9.99 diyoha 10-06-2000, 11:16 AM Originally posted by Chicken Heyyyy, I've got a third version of their reseller program! After reading this about Enom and that price for domains The message you got was exactly what I got but with a dollar difference. They must be some internal turmoil in that company. Or pure miscommunication running rampant. Either way you are right it might be dangerous to do business with them. I actually stick with OpenSRS for registering domains for my clients ($10/domain/year). But for domains I think are cool and might need later I register with enom for a couple years ... planning to transfer when I need them. :) I still have to check if I am getting the 6.95 rate :( later David |
