View Full Version : What's going on with Serversonic?!
NocturnalGuy 02-09-2004, 10:42 PM Anyone here have any idea? I signed up with them last year after finding them on this board. After some serious downtime in December, I have been trying to cancel my account with them. They have ignored all my tickets and emails, and have continued to bill my credit card fraudulently for the last two months! Their toll-free number does not work, and their user forums are gone. I have a feeling they've gone the way of the dodo, but of course their site is still up, so presumably they're still taking on new customers...
4Hosted 02-09-2004, 10:59 PM This is usually your last option and it seems you have probably reached this point.
Before doing this, try emailing them and mention that you are going to do a chargeback.... That could possibly get a response.
If not, then call your credit card company and dispute the charge, You are paying for a service you havent received and if your consistently being ignored, you dont have much other choice, or they could continue charging you
I dont usually recommend this myself, as ive seen how much it can cost a company but if they are not willing to respond to cancellations, you have no other choice.
Good luck!!!
NocturnalGuy 02-09-2004, 11:32 PM Thanks Kevin,
I've actually already done that, after the first fraudulent charge in January. That amount was charged back to them and credited to me, but just yesterday they charged me again! Guess I'll have to change my credit card number too :(
I was just curious if Jordan (from Serversonic) was still around here, as he was quite active here last year. Doesn't seem like it though.

I do not think you will have to change your credit card number....
The next time you phone to get a chargeback for February, also ask them to block any more charges from ServerSonic.
hope that helps!
NocturnalGuy 02-10-2004, 09:07 AM UPDATE:
I finally heard back from Jordan, so hopefully this will get cleared up now.
Greg - my credit card company did a "stop recurring" on that account, which I figured would block any further attempts by that company to bill my card. When I called them back yesterday to inform them of the latest charge, the rep said that a "stop recurring" doesn't always work, and that there was little else he could do! So I'll probably cancel that card anyway... I've got lots of others ;-)
Sorry to hear about your experience. I thought I was the only one who had to deal with ServerSonic like that. :(
I started hosting with them in Jan. 2003 after I jumped boat from Feature Price. Hosting was almost always online with little to no problems, though their tech support was always delayed into the hours and possibly days (not much of a problem as I never had any serious problems that needed like immediate attention).
In December 2003, right before Christmas (it was like Dec. 20 if I remember correctly), my websites with them all went offline.
The worst part was I had just made a payment to them for ~$70 via PayPal (after Feature Price I was reluctant to let a host have my credit card number, so I went with PayPal for this host, thank god I did too, otherwise I'd probably be disputing chargebacks right now).
I posted something like 10 or so Helpdesk tickets about the problem over the ordeal. I emailed them a few times.
After my site was in its third day straight of downtime (with absolutely no response from ServerSonic), I made a move to my current host, HTTPme.
About week after the downtime started, ServerSonic sent out like a mass announcement saying that server had problems they couldn't fix and to contact them to be moved to another server. It is absolutely horrendous that it took them so long to deal with what should have been a simple issue for them.
And all the tickets I had made (first starting with like what is going on; why is my stuff still offline; why am I not getting a response; this absolutely unacceptable; telling them I was leaving to another host; etc)... they made ONE reply to one ticket and it said the exact same thing as the email they sent out, and they closed all my other tickets.
I notified them on at least three different occasions I was leaving and to cancel my account. This last week, I received an email from them with an invoice for the new month. I of course ignored it as I was no longer hosting with them, and they were supposed to have closed my account. About a week later, I received a new email saying that my payment was DUE NOW, followed by an email saying my account had been suspended.
After moving to HTTPme, I started the process with PayPal to retrieve the ~$70 I had just paid ServerSonic (I had paid for another month just as my sites went offline). But unfortunately since it is not a physical good, I was unable to retrieve it. And, they were able to get a response to PayPal about the investigation (for getting my money back) immediately, but had completely ignored my emails and Helpdesk tickets.
All in all, I wouldn't recommend anyone use ServerSonic anymore. It is absolutely unacceptable for a host to deal with clients in this way.
NocturnalGuy 02-10-2004, 11:24 AM Well, PUBH, your experience pretty much parallels mine! I too was a former FeaturePrice victim; I was with another host for a couple of months after I left FP which turned out to be terrible, then I found Serversonic. I had no major problems with them until just before Christmas, when all my sites were down for 10 days! After one day of downtime with no response from them, I moved to another host (e3servers) which has been great so far.
Like I said, I did hear back from Jordan this morning, which was quite unexpected after a couple of months of silence; I'll post any updates here.
Yeah... for awhile it sort of felt like I was the only one who had, but after checking the Hosted Assured thing while the downtime was occuring, I found there were at least a few others who experienced the same.
I'm not sure why... but I just received an email from ServerSonic (automated email) about an invoice payment; but I had never made any payment.
I'll also keep any updates here.
NocturnalGuy 02-13-2004, 06:32 PM Well, Jordan cancelled my account and reversed the latest charge. I guess they got a bit swamped around Christmas and screwed up, but he seems to be trying to pull it together now. I'm glad I left when I did though.
