View Full Version : Sysadmin looking for work.
node9 10-15-2001, 01:02 AM Hi
I have extensive linux and unix experience, I currently sysadmin / manage 5 linux servers, if anything goes wrong, i'm there to fix it. Infact, i run my own irc *network*, therfor i would easily be able to accomdate the irc chat support, or scripts/pages that'll load the irc chat through the browser, i can pretty much do whatever..
If there is anyone out there looking for a sysadmin, I would be very willing to work for you.. My contact info is below:
aim: Skream9
ICQ: 131843734
email: skream9@home.com
yahoo: skream9
thanks

ravencorp 10-27-2001, 11:48 AM Are you not that kid who runs that #pranknet radio show that had kids carding you "Confrences" online? are you not that kid whom defaces pages NT IIS style? The one who packets people cause they don't like you?? Oh yes are you not SKREAM9 aka Blue_Demon from yahoo? Did you not say in an interview of you and your radio show that you lived in BC???
Just curious on how all this will reflect you as a sys admin.
Just curious.
ravencorp 10-27-2001, 11:52 AM PS
Last post was for NODE9
Sorry to tell you Skream9, most companies don't want a dumb script kid like you anywhere near their servers. I'm sure you never had any intentions of badgering your employer into letting you install an ircd for your little warez/prank network. Thats just my rant. Btw, did you ever graduate high school?
DavidU 10-27-2001, 02:57 PM Whoa ravencorp and env_ -- ravencorp, you have 20 posts and env_ THAT WAS YOUR FIRST POST. :o
I run node9's master hub for his IRC network and as far as I know he's never used an employer's server for IRC. Before you start to make claims you need show some evidence.
I know I let him use one of my spare servers for free and he has my permission. It's not as if he's running EFNet here.
Also, lets have a name to go behind your two identities.

I won't say more than this, but you are wrong!
cheers,

DavidU 10-27-2001, 03:17 PM I'm happy to stand corrected, I'm just explaining my experience with him.
Node9 -- anything to say?

Ouch.... Thats quite a post from a "complete newbie". Show some proof if your gonna flame someone.
dherman76 10-27-2001, 03:36 PM I think we all want to see some proof. I have had conversations with node9 in the past and he is a great guy. He helped us out once or twice.
node9 10-27-2001, 03:51 PM well i just spoke to DavidU, and I know that what he's going to do is tell you all i hacked his server blah blah.
A couple weeks ago, or a week ago a ptrace exploit came out, and it was vulnerable on alot of systems, see thread: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=23832
so anyhow, i tried this on my own server and it worked, i then was inspired to fix it. (upgrade the kernel)
I tried this on davidU's server, i have a shell there, i have been friends with him for a long time, never once have i done any wrong, nor did i ever intend to.. these accusations that are being made against me are false.
I tested the exploit, and for some reason when i ran it, it would kick me out (which of course is a good thing)
i think talked to him on aim and told him about this exploit, i had told him that it works on my server but not his. I said why? how come? he said that he installed some kernel patches etc..i thought well i need to do the same for mine, so i asked him for some help, but he had to go..
I had ran this exploit more than once, but it never worked on his server, i dont' know why it didnt work AT THAT TIME, but it didn't...
If it did i would of told him, those were my intentions. week's gone by, my server is fine now, and I think i still left a compiled versoin of the exploit in /tmp
Keep in mind any 4 year old can compile code, I didnt bother deleting it.... i mean im not out to hide anything, i had told him i tested it on his server, and it didnt work... IF it was really out to hide things i woul dof removed it like any smart person would do.
Today i find out that my shell login for davidu's server is no llonger working, he tells me
I see you got insert_shellcode working... your account hasn't been deleted -- it's just been disabled.
At this point, i did not care about the shell, i was tryign to explain to him that It did not work, and i had told him that, it was very very late at night, maybe he forgot, i don't know, but i just tried explaining to him that when i tried it it didnt work, and i TOLD HIM it was in /tmp and i told him that i tried and it didnt work, it gave me like
"Command signal 11" or something and it exited and relogged in.. i even asked him WHY
The bottom line is DavidU believes otherwise, which is unfortunate.. i dont like loosing friends becuase of someone named "Env" who has a grudge on me, this isnt the first time env has tried to make things bad for me, env is just out to get me, he has no other intentions, the things he says arent true....
As for dektong, you KNEW what i was doing man, i had told you i just wanted to test something. I shut it down, it was nothing horrible, if you had such a problem how come you never said anything to me?
anyways, i'm sorry my friendship with DavidU has gone down the drain due to a bunch of flamers who are looking for trouble, but i am nothing like what "ravencorp" describes me as.
node9 10-27-2001, 03:52 PM could a mod please close this thread as it has no reason to be open here any longer, this was a week ago, and its in the wrong part of wht.
thanks

DavidU 10-27-2001, 04:06 PM Node9,
I'm still your friend. I don't make quick judgements, quick posts, quick actions. Yes, like any good sysadmin should, I disabled your account until I had more information. I would HOPE you would do the same to me. It has nothing to do with friendship -- it has to do with being a good admin.
I don't think you hacked my server -- but I also feel you made a bad choice to try to run the exploit on my server.
For example, if I were in your shoes and you knew about the exploit a simple email to me with the securityfocus URL would have taken care of it. Trying an "in the wild" exploit on a server for which you are not root is not an acceptable thing to do. I didn't get mad at you then because I didn't see the purpose. I still don't. I'm not mad at you.
Making poor choices is all part of learning and growing up. I have no doubt that at somepoint you'll be a great sysadmin but before that happens you need to slow down, think a little more and just r-e-l-a-x.
In every situation, no matter how "EMERGENCY" it is, taking a step back always helps. ;-)
