I know this might have been discussed before but I dont seem to have found the thread. What live chat program would you recommend and why?

I want to clear something out with this software...I noticed if nobody was there on the live chat you could open up a ticket. What if someone is there on the live chat then could you open a ticket some other way or you would just have to chat with the operator?

Xoopiter-Jeff

Well you go to the chat and if the chat timesout which you set in the config.php then you go to the help tickets. So either way there getting to a help ticket enless they talk to a person. Great program just need my sound fixed!

I use (and would reccomend highly) a program called livehelp by a company called stardevelop. It's just as good as all those expensive ones that you pay monthly for, however there's only a one-time fee of US$54.95 (they are australian or something to that effect, so the price changes daily based on exchange rates.).

check it out - http://livehelp.stardevelop.com/

I would recommend Bold Chat http://www.boldchat.com They offer both a paid and a free version. I have only tried the free version, sut I have been more than happy with it.

Could you have different departments in this script. I already have a helpdesk script so I want them to be able to submit tickets through the helpdesk I have now currently. When people talk through live chat is it recoreded so I could get a transcript of the chat perhaps to monitor my employees.

Xoopiter-Jeff

Yes you can have different departments and yes you can have it so there are automatic transcripts.

Final Question: Is there like the automated commands/push page? and how easy is the setup...can the live online buttons be replaced by our own or do we have to use the standard ones?

My first priority was LivePerson but they have a win app which I don't need and don't want at the moment, moreover their live chat app is slow.

Indeed I was thinking of LiveResponse but then again it is has its own flaws or somethings that I dont like.

personally, I use Php Live! Support (http://www.phplivesupport.com) and it's the only thing I've found that even remotely fits my needs. I've tried others from kayako to phplivechat and found the products not only undesirable but that they just flat out didn't work on Netscape, IE+ browsers.

My only complaint with PHP Live Support is that the server (I'm using a hosted version for now) is way too lagged down at times and that affects page load times, but if you pickup say the full version, you won't notice this at all, or shouldn't.

BVS

I have used PHP Live Support in the past but I am not too happy with their lagging. What do you think of Star Develop?

02-13-2004, 07:54 PM
This one is not by any means the best however it is the free, if you are just looking for a solution to get the job done I would reccomend: craftysyntax.com/livehelp/

We have been using it for about 2 months, however it does lack many features of the "pay" chat systems.

I recently found a product called n-contact. I can't post a url yet, so you will have to google them!

Their proactive chat is not blocked by popups and it ahs all of the features you all have been talking about. I have looked at lots and lots of these programs and this on eis really, really the best. Check it out!

Well it better be. I just checked their website and at the bottom it says the following:

Prices start at $899 a year installed for a 5 seat License.

I am very happy with Stardevelop. Especially when I think of all the money I am saving with the great features it has. Thanks for the info though.

Guys, star develop looks nice, but what about proactive chat?

BVS
02-15-2004, 10:30 PM
Well to be honest with you I dont think a lot of customers would like proactive chat...simple in other words popups :D....I mean if I went to a website and a chat window popped up, I would leave...its like as though you are being followed through the website :)

sarahnoved
02-15-2004, 10:38 PM
I would agree with you, except I have seen what it does for our business. Our customers love it and really respond to it. I agree, it's hard to believe. Of course, they probably don't realize that it means they are being followed.

Help Center Live is down for a couple of days while we move servers, and release the new website and version 1.2

You can download HCL 1.1 P1 from our sourceforge project page however, because 1.2 is being released in a couple of days you may want to wait.

Thank you all for suggesting new names but I would really appreciate it if you could help me choose between SiteChatter and StarDevelop since I have looked into the other live chat solutions mentioned in this thread and I am only interested in the above mentioned two.

Please advice...thanks

joemaster
02-18-2004, 03:13 PM
SiteChatter looks like a PHPLive ASP which means that it is more than likely that development is not going to happen especially if the ASP license was for one version. Back in the old days, PHPLive didnt have a license that protected them against reselling and a few people resold the product hosted which looks like what SiteChatter have done. This means that it is an old version maybe 1.2 or something

StarDevelop on the other hand is not riding off the back of another live support comapny, and if it was me i would choose thyem because you know it is going to be developed more.

I personally use Help Center Live 1.2 which is great.

So, Yes, go with StarDevelop if you are choosing between the two, even though they have a lack of features at the moment (in my oppinion) you know that the product is being developed.

Hope that helped.
J.M

I use Star Develop's Live Chat.

I highly recommend it. It's very easy to use and fully featured. Windows client is great, too.

Proactive chat -- I know it is included. However, it doesn't always work for me.

Good product, though.

i bought stardevelp and loved it, its interface is great, and it builds into the .net framework of windows so thats a plus....

But beleive it or not i checked out helpcenterlive which proved to be almost identical to stardevelop as far as its capabilities, the winapp is more trimmed down but version 2 is almost out and blows away stardevelops....

To make a long story short i paid $50 for stardevelop and no i use helpcenter live instead which was free, but out of your only 2 choices i can honestly recomend stardevelop

I dont think your clients would have to install on their computers to enter live chat since I have gone to some sites with Star Develop and I didn't have to download anything.

Completely agree, and this is why i use help center live too. With star develop i believe you can only have the windows application, but with help center live, you can have a windows and a web request monitor. With star develop, if you aren't on the computer that the app is installed on, its a no go for supporting your customers.

I've been using crafty syntax live chat program since I first provided live support via my website. I'm getting more to dislike it very much as I read your posts in this thread. :D

It's time to get rid of that old fashioned crafty syntax program. From my survey/evalution so far, I'm tossing between Live Help Center and StarDevelop. ;)

I have used both products before and find both have advantages and disadvantages. Both are great products. Both do their jobs that were intended for them.

Help center live has a live chat and helpdesk feature however Stardevelop Livehelp is just a live chat feature so they are able to put more energy into their live chat application.

However flush() who is the creator of help center live is a great guy who gives great support to his clientiel. He is also a frequent member of these forums.

Also stardevelop.com provides great support and are always willing to help you.

The reason i shifted from Help Center Live to Stardevelop was because i thought for an extra few bucks I would try out Stardevelop. This was in relation to the Winapp.

sarahnoved

Some of the things that we like better than groopz are that the chat box will follow the customer when the customer changes the page (with groopz the box closed), if the customer came from a search engine or message board you can click on a link and the page they came from will open in a new window, you can cut and paste from the chat window, and you can set up "triggers" to automatically initiate a chat. We had a pretty smooth transition.

What: Help Center Live

Why: Price, pretty-reliable, operator pictures, tons of little features (most of which i don't use). Plus I hear the WinApp is nice, but only hearsay by me.
