Ok,

Today I tried to make a payment with paypal, and it failed saying my credit card was declined, which i dont know y as i used it several times today.

Moving on, i tried to pay the guy 10 times and it didnt go through.
So i said i'll try tomorrow. I went to the gym and just got back. Checked my bank account online and noticed PayPal has deducted £22.75 (about $40) 5 times out of my account! But then i check the paypal account overview, and all of it failed.

So i get very worried as thats a lot of money involved especially for me, a 17yr old with a hell of a lot of bills to pay this week.

So i ring my bank first, they were very kind and understanding. They knew about PayPal and provided me with PayPal customer support number. So i ring paypal and they tell me, no money was taken out. I re-check my bank statement online their and then, and money had been taken out.

So after about 15mins on the phone with the guy, he comes to the conclusion that the money could of just been set aside by the bank as kind of a pre-authorization thing, even though my bank doesn't do that. So he recommends i ring my bank again. I ring my bank, and they tell me it is possibly that the money has been set aside and its highly probable that it will go back into my account within a few days once the computer systems find out their is no place to put the money.

My bank was re-assuring that they can get the money back if it doesn't go back into my account and PayPal deny they got the money. PayPal said they can do a trace if they have to, to see where it went.

So the situation lies, PayPal hasn't got the money, my bank isn't sure its got the money.

I want to know has this ever happened to anyone? This is the first time this has happened to me and has got me worried if the money has been lost.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

FYI: Its a UK bank (NatWest)

Thanks
Rameen

It's a pre-auth. You can't say "your bank doesn't do that" -- they do -- they have to. PayPal authorized your card but has not taken the funds; your funds will be returned to you in a few days, when the authorization clears.

You can also call your bank and let them know what happened and they will release the money for you now.

All banks won't do that will thier accounts but the ones I bank with will.

Good news!

The money has gone back into my account, and the online statement shows that this incident never happened. So PayPal were right.

I don't hate paypal or anything, i was just concerned and wanted to see if any1 had the same experience to see what happened with them.

As for paypalsucks.com, i'm in the UK, and PayPal is registered biz in the UK so im protected by very strict UK business laws, so really im not that worried about PayPal messing me up because i know what can be done about it.

Thanks for help guys.

stealthdevil, glad to hear everything got worked out to your satisfaction.

note: PayPal recently was approved by the EU to process and handle payments in the UK, so you're correct we are now complying with UK and other EU country payment processing regulations.

regards & best of luck to you,

Hey that happened to me, it takes 10 days to come back to you. It will stay pending in paypal and on the 10th day paypals system is set to give it back if it isn't completed. It pissed me off because I tried sending a lot more money a few times and it left me without that money for 10days

Mine didnt say pending, it said it was refused alltogether, however my bank statement showed it had been taken out. I had thought my money was simply 'lost'. However, once the computer systems found out the money had no place to go, it went staight into my account, and all evidence of the incident disappeared off the statement. Spooooooooooky.....

This happened to me a while back, I am also in the UK and a LLoyds TSB customer, I tried to buy a oyster railcard (£147) and it failed 8 times, I tried all different cards and eventually bought it ok on my Mastercard.

anyway The next day I check my account and my available balance is down by (8 * £147) - Thats a lot of money lol. Apparently it would clear in a few days but as you can image thats more than my rent which was due to come off the very next day and would bounce unless the money was no longer ear marked on my account.

Anyway after few phone calls and contacting my local branch they were able to remove the ear marks off my account.

But a pain in the arse regardless.

Yeah i know what you mean. I had a lot of bills to pay that very week, and having a few hundred marked off your account with no steady explanation where it went was pretty scary. But having £1176 marked off your account like urs!, i would of had a heart attack!
