Hai!
I own a PIII 750, 256 MB RAM System with a Internet connection with windows OS, I wish to start a very small hosting company with this system. But I am zero about web hosting. I need a free tutorial which will teach me AtoZ that is required for starting a webhosting company. A tutorial that will guide me how to setup a hosting server.!
Thank You!

You found it already. WHT is free and there is a wealth of information on these forums.

There is no specific how-to create a company. However, if you read up on the forums you'll soon see what to do and what not to do.

arulkumar,

Setting up a hosting company on your home PC is frowned upon and to be honest it just does not work. Look in the reseller forum for a reputable hosting company and buy a reseller account. In the end it will save you and your customers a lot of heartache.

good luck,
Derrick

as a web hosting reseller, how much time do you have to spend in serving the clientel? is there a way to have it automated or does that not work in the web hosting business?
Thanks,
Mike

I would recommend not stating a business at all if you expect to just sit back and have it manage itself and bring money in for you. The world doesn't turn that way.

You have to start a Web Hosting Company with a small reseller account. Hosting on own personal home PC is just Funny:D

Eh, it happens. I know of a company around here that charges $100 a month hosting on their DSL line. The sites are slow as can be. Of course, they have no clue what they're doing and I'm trying to wrestle away the domain of one of my newer clients from them because they won't update to our nameservers or change any of the contact information.

Hi,

It is not that simple task to start web hosting business

on your personal computer and getting tutorials for that is

much more dificult. The bestway is to go in for space as

reseller and learn in & .out of busi ness.Alternatively you can

choose an outsourcing company to support you. There are

companies like ehostcare.com to provide 24/7 support at

competative prices.

Hi, frankly it is a bad idea and many people do not like purchasing on a company of such. (Dont mean to be close minded)

You may want to try renting a remote server for starters.

Hi,

It is definitely a perfect IDEA , instead of burning fingers with big money ,investment. Start a small, get experience , know in and out then convert to partnership firm then private ltd, then AT LASTPUBLIC LIMITED. don't forget HP from garage to LIMITED.

Have you begun yet or have you created a business plan?

That is how I would start. I would start by asking myself all the hard questions and answering honestly to myself...

How many competitors are out there?
How many potential clients are ot there?
How many clients do you need to operate with your planned cost structure?
How will you find customers?
What would be the reason for someone to sign up with you rather than proven hosting companies already established?
How do you plan to advertise?
What is the required rate of growth for you to survive?
How will it be funded in the event that you do not meet expectations?
How will you handle the changes if there is too much demand?

This is by no means a complete list fo questions as the questions are endless really, but they help a lot. Spend at least a good month thinking about this sort of thing and create spread sheets and such. I would not rush into it without some very deep thought...

Of course, this sort of applies to any business you want to start really...

HTH :D

if you changed it to Linux it would handle better than running a windows OS. there is alot of linux tutorials. To begin just install red hat with the developers option selected and it install all the required software and there is no end of tutorials for linux

I can't believe that anyone would offer a tutorial or anything other than telling this guy that hosting on his home PC is a super bad idea.
Especially when he already knows nothing about how to do it.

Take the advice of the ones that say to get a reseller account.

Learn from there. You need to find customers, get them to sign up. They will contact you for support. If you don't know what their problem is,,, your host should support you.

If you don't want to do any kind of work but find customers, then don't look into being a host or a reseller. There are plenty of companies out there that pay a referal fee. Then you just bring them customers, and they pay you.

Which ever works best for you,,, it is your choice. But don't put paying customers on a home PC. when it breaks down, or goes off line for hours or days,,, you could get sued. That is neglect, any way you want to look at it.

Best wishes, and good luck,

Tim L

I totally agree. Find a reseller account and learn. Visit websites, gain knowledge. Reliable uptime is what people will pay for, not something on a home PC.

Actually my advise would be before the reseller account or anything get a regular hosting account with a reliable provider and start there. If you know nothing about hosting the best place to learn is from what will one day your clients point of view. By doing this you will know more about hosting by being the customer and will be better prepared to answer your clients questions as you will have been in there shoes first hand. This also give you a chance to use a few different kinds of Control panesl and all around configurations and will give you a better idea of what you will want to offer your customers. Just a thought best of luck and please don't put paying customers on a residential line. you will only be hurting yourself and that's the truth.
