View Full Version : Fraudulent signups

We are located in Australia and Thailand.. We find that over half of our signups from USA are fraudulent. On receipt, we first do a basic WhitePages check of the phone number, address, etc. which most always prove to be incorrect... if there is still doubt, we will phone the number. Invariably, the phone number is incorrect or the response is "we know nothing about it".

Finally, we send an email requesting verification, and very seldom will there be a reply.

Most likely these people target a non-US Reseller in the belief that they will not check their bona fides.

The question is - are other non US / Canada Resellers experiencing the same amount of fraudulent signups or is it just our pretty face?

I have had times where I get up to 2 per day, and then none for weeks. Just get used to it... Keep verifying anything that looks suspicious. There are scumbags and theives in every business, yours just don't happen to come in to rob you face-to-face.

Please watch when you say Asia. Not all countries (Asia is a continent) in Asia are third world countries and subsequently, we are not all thieves. Please watch what you are saying in the future as a lot of ppl will be offended. FYI, some countries in Asia are some of the richest in the world, so please don't diss us

ive had 2 orders in the last week that look fraudulany totaling $500USD, with world pay all you can do is wait for it to get charged back because the transaction is automatically put through. Im in the UK though.

I'm in the US not overseas, but I noticed as soon as I signed up for HostSearch's Bidded Ranking and got on the first page, I was getting 1-5 fraud orders a day. On days like this I know I made the right choice in not doing auto account setups. Not one single fraud order got through because their ip's all trace to different locations than the address on the order (Visual Route is cool for this). I really feel for all these hosts that do auto signups.

Bah .... I come from Asia, my dear friend! I am an Asian! No need to tell me how Asia is! I said this _synically_ to those people who think like this. BTW, I never make a claim that all countries in Asia are third world country! Don't make conclusion on the things I did not write!

Sorry mate, but just try reading clearly what you wrote on your post. If your grammar was a little better, then I would have understood what you meant, but this wasn't the case. The way you wrote your post implied that asia as a whole is a third world country and is where thieves come from :D

Nothing wrong with my grammar ... and no need to put your smillies. If you have been around here long enough you will know that there are many complaints by the webhosts in this board saying that they got so many fraudulent orders from many countries in Asia and even some of them claim they will not take order originanting from Asia (and hence my cynical remark).

Read my post again, I never said Asia as a whole is a third world country. You made a wrong conlusiong on the word "or" I made ... It's just me saying: "I like eating Chinese food (_or_ some other Italian cooked by my friend)" and you would claim I just throw a rock saying I said all Chinese food are basically Italian.

I wonder to know how to do this, is it through your cc processor (AVS)? I am setting up my cc payment (through charge.com) and would surely love to be able to verify all information before the charge is made to the cc... My cc payment may offer AVS though ...

Actually, most italian food originated from china, but thats not the point ;)

I'm not saying that you had anything against asians (after all, you are asian). The point I was trying to make was try to word what you are saying better, otherwise "newbies" like myself will get the wrong idea.

And whats wrong with smilies? hehe :D

All of our fraudulent orders have come from India (We are a US based company), but then again, about a third of our customers are from India also so nothing against India or Indians. :D . People are the problem, not the country :)
