Now i used to stick to your paperback books or unabridged or abridged audio books but certain events have forced me to convert to eBooks where audio is not available.

Have you read an eBook cover to cover or page to page as it would be?

Did you find it a bit awkward or weird at first?

And do you agree that Adobe Acrobat Reader is a pain in the *** at the best of times as for this purpose i find it thus bit it is free i guess, makes up for it a tad.

It takes a bit of getting used to. And AAR certainly has its flaws. But you certainly can't beat the "immediacy" of getting your book mere moments after placing your order.

It's great on my PDA! Thanks the real
selling point of ebooks IMHO.

edit: and the reason above :)

Whats the difference between an ebook, and reading a thread here on WHT? I mean, some of these threads can seem like soap operas!

User first was hosting with HostA, then they got into a fight and broke up, and is now with HostB, but HostB wasnt as good as HostA, and the User and HostA make up and get back together. But User has HostC on the side, and HostA gets upset... and the story goes on, and on, and on....

You're right on the speed and the price isn't too shabby either.

I use magnification software on my computer and on the eBook i purchased the "read out loud" feature is disabled and the reading can become a bit of a strain on the old eyes. Then it freezes as the magnification softwareis the biggest system hog you can find; a new comp might solve a lot of these problems i suppose.

So just something i'll have to get used to i'm sure. I suppose it will be one of those "learning to ride a bike" things, once done, never a problem again. :)

Seriously, though. eBooks are a great immediate product. After all, the Internet is an Information Highway. Getting info within moments is truly the beauty of the Net.

I know, threads on here can become very long, one political thread i started last year was huge, most of my responses took more than one reply to fit in all the text and what i had to say and then there was the opposing viewpoint, huh it was quite big.

I suppose the main difference between a thread on here and an eBook is that this doesn't freeze up and i like books so once i start i'll sit there for hours or used to, with the magnification software and the no read alound thingy and a few othe problems it has proved a pain in more ways than one. Probably something unique to me, hopefully only a short term issue.

I must admit being a fan of eBooks, you don't have to wait for an age for your book to come into stock & get sent to you.
As vito said, they are an immediate source of information, which is obviously quite handy!
I've read around a hundred eBooks in my time, but normally only read the sections I'm interested in unless its really interesting. (like a book on self-hypnosis where if you don't read it all, you could be kinda screwed!)

Call me old fashioned but if i had the choice for reading which i don't at the minute, i'd still go with a paper version; i like my low tech entertainment now and again.

Not to concentrate too much on the paper version too much in a ebook thread, i did like window shopping of sorts in a book shop, reading the first few pages before buying it or if not, one thing you can't do with eBooks.

What i will do on some eBooks i have lined up is buy the Hardback or if unavailable Paperback version for display purposes.

This thread has given me a great business idea, sham i can't share it with you ;)

Why should I buy an eBook? So I can be put into prison for sharing it with my friend?

Anyway, monitors are not the best reading surface. I'm not exactly sure of the scientific reasoning for this situation, but reading lenghtly information from the monitor is not comfortable. I do see how eBooks are a good source of information for at-the-moment-information. Like I said before, I wouldn't buy eBooks if I can't share it with others.

You can certainly print an ebook to your local printer. So reading off the screen should not be an issue.

As for sharing with your friends, invite them over for a BBQ and read to them. I'm sure the author won't mind... :D

Don't worry, you're not gonna see me become a millionire over this idea; my business partner and i have dozens of ideas on our to do list but we lack the money to turn pretty much all of them into a reality.

If it goes big, i'll consider offering you a place on the board. ;)

Joseph_M, i doubt i have the money for a penny sweet at the minute, do you accept Monopoly money?

to be honest I have downloaded 100's of ebooks, they sound interesting at the time or other reasons. so far I have yet to complete one. I usualy will sway away from it after a half an hour or so. maybe I should get a laptop or something and read before going to sleep.

Never read any myself. I'm still a fan of 'dead tree' reading. I spend so much time in front of this computer I'm more than happy to get away sometimes and read elsewhere. ;)

I've read quite a few Ebooks, mostly programming oriented and tutorials. I still prefer the origional thing though.

I have read a few, they weren't that bad. As for using my PDA to read them, that's rare for me to use it.
