I'm wondering if anybody has experience with diy hosting for hsphere reseller hosting
they do lots of adverts in nova scotia, where I am from, and they look good, but one of my friends said to check webhostingtalk before signing up with a hosting company.

I looked at their site aswell as matrixreseller and resellercenter (yuck), and the 2 i am contemplating are diy hosting and matrixreseller, because resellercenter looks like its run by kids plud they run windows 2003, which doesn't look stable enough to me yet is there any opinions on diy hosting - diy-hosting.com mainly, but matrixresller - matrixreseller.com also

Thanks:confused:

byte_me,

Do not go with how a website looks like. Send an email or two to the hosts you mentioned and see how well they respond. This is the one and only thing that can give you a true picture of a host.

Hi byte_me,

Simon at DIY posts here a fair amount. Ive had some personaly experience with him and Id say he's a true professional.

Having said this, mediopia makes a good point. Contact both hosts and see whos responses you're happiest with. I know DIY has a forum set up where you can ask pre sales questions. Maybe try there?

Hope this helps...

because resellercenter looks like its run by kids

Just wanted to ask what gave you that feeling. I know the site isn't that great right now.. We are working with a design company now.. The new design should be finished within the month..

Was it only the design or something else.. Just curious because thats the first time we have been reffered to in that manner. Also if I can answer any questions please let me know..

Whatever you do, have a good long look at their support forums, aside from what mediopia recommends(great advice) it's good to see how they handle their customers in the support forums.

As far as Matrixreseller.... I used to have an account with them, it's too much of a a headache after a while... they don't appreciate complaints, and they are plagued by network/servers problems, all the time.

thank you for the replies...

I understand what you mean but i actually think how a company presents themselves is very important. if they can't put up a decent presentation for their services and support, it doesn't fill a customer which much hope for the future

gargoyle> i asked presales questions over the phone on the toll free number, and they answered all my questions but the forum was my next stop if i had anything left to ask. Thanks

rescenter> it is partly your website. which doesn't work in mozilla properly. the flash buttons have no text in my browser, so i had to switch to internet explorer. and your forum looks like windows xp, which is not very professional in my view
it may be an accident, but almost your entire site gives off the impression that you just threw it goether hoping for people sign up, thanks anyway

aspman> i looked at the diy community, but they do not have a support section. from what i see support is done from the hsphere, and by the phone, which i prefer they also have a walkthrough page which im looking at right at the moment

i contacted diy-hosting.com and also matrixreseller, but matrixreseller didn't reply which is odd. i signed up with diy-hosting.com last night but haven't done much in the hsphere so far because i want to read the walkthroughs first

byte_me, not sure why you did not get an reply, did you get an auto reply from sales or what email address did you use. All of our emails goes in to our ticket system it should auto reply.

Sorry - off topic here...

Vortech - we used to have all our emails go through the ticketing system, but the auto reply was killing us WRT spam...

Have you figured out a way around this or are you just dealing with the Spam as best you can?

We get a lot of that, which is why we started looking for a sales ticket system, and came to cerberus in the end (best thing we ever did).

We'd have people calling us and saying things like "why aren't you answering sales emails if you're answering the phones" etc.. and then we realised a lot of people's ISP's didn't like the opening of the ticket emails auto-response layout, because of the use of indifferent characters. I'd suggest you look into something like that, Cerberus is only a couple of hundred bucks, well worth it for the price.

We noticed it with H-Sphere's default, Kayako's, and also Omnistar, so far we've had no complaints with Cerberus.

By the way byteme, welcome to DIY.

Simon

Yea but you would not have issues with just sales really, never had an issue with any support tickets that I know about.. This is the first I have heard of an issue of an ISP not liking an auto-response that sounds kind of stupid to me.

If a spam filter doesn't like the "cut here" tag, it'll can it.

Eastlink, our provider here does exactly that. They don't allow us to recieve spam even if we wanted to  (they also block port 25 if they find/detect a virus on their system, but then forget to enable it when the virus is cleared  but that's another topic).

I can't say that's what happenned here, but I would guess your guys would be on top of a request, so there must be some reason.

Yea I would just like to see if it every came in. If we can get a ticket number or an email it was sent from then we should be able to find out very easy.. All of our sales tickets are answered so I know we did not miss any that were at least in the system.. :)

i sent it to sales@matrixreseller.com because when i hit the trouble tickets link, it took me to a knowledgebase screen not a ticket screen
you have a good site but didn't reply to my email so didn't win my confidence

thank you. and if anything goes wrong at least i can come and hunt you guys down. your office is not far from here so no downtime please :)

byte_me, can you PM me or email the email address you sent the ticket in from that way I can take a look at the ticket system and the logs to see why it did not make it in to our ticket system or why it was not answered. Thanks for pointing that out and any info you can give me would be great.

Also IHSL is a good guy you should be happy if you picked him as well.. :)

hi
i thought id ask this in the same place because its about the same company

i got 6 static IP address's with my diy hosting account, but i have used them all. diy told me that i should not use them so lightly especially not for sub domains is this right?

everything else is perfect with my account but they keep saying i should free up some use of ip address to the subdomains i have them on and will not assign any more to me until that is done or i can justify them

what should i do?

Techark

IP addresses are only needed for SSL certs or private name servers other than that you should be using the shared IP address. Host have to justify the use of IP addresses, in order to get more and just because I want one is not a good reason.

I agree with their stance you need to clean up your use of IP addresses.

Hi

If you have a question about IP usage, simply call us, and we'll run you through a few points, aswell as help you clean up the usage.

All IP usage must be justified, as TechArk pointed out :)
