My domain name is up for renewal, and I want to pick the best registration company that can do the following:
1. Forward ALL email--regardless of mailbox--to another domain.
So "anything@mydomain.com" will forward automatically to "anything@myotherdomain.com"--or else to a single box, "nagromme@myotherdomain.com."
(As long as all mail reaches my new domain, I don't care if the separation of mailboxes is lost in the forwarding.)
2. Forward ALL pages to the new site.
So "mydomain.com/anypath/anyfile.xxx" sends people instantly to "myotherdomain.com/anypath/anyfile.xxx"--or else simply sends them to the home page of myotherdomain.com.
(Again, as long as all links to mydomain.com get you to myotherdomain.com successfully, it is OK if the specific page URL is ignored.)
3. Forward all pages regardless of whether the "www." is used or not. That is important.
4. This is ideal but NOT necessary--change the URL entered ("mydomain.com") to "myotherdomain.com." Failing that, if the original "mydomain.com" simply "works as is" like a total mirror of "myotherdomain.com," that would be OK.
Price and stability (uptime, likely to be around for a while) are my main concerns--ease of use is not a big issue. If the best option is to use some service separate from the registration company, that's fine too--in which case I'll go with 000domains.com even though they don't offer the above functionality.
My reason for needing this is that I will be changing my company's Web address in a few months, and once the new site is set up (but BEFORE I shut down the old server) I need to have forwarding of the old address in place, for all the people who have bookmarked my pages or have my email addresses on file. I need to plan for that day in choosing who to renew my name with.
My web host CAN simply park the old domain--but that gets very expensive with my host, and I'd rather not switch hosts. So I am hoping I can get this done for free/low-cost by choosing the right registration company to renew with.
(I already have some other alternate names registered with 000domains.com, and am using bn3.com to forward those to the real site--but those alternates don't need email nor forwarding of bookmarked subpages. For my current needs, this BN3 solution won't be enough: BN3 generates an error if you try to use a specific page address--it only forwards the "bare domain name.")
Thanks!
