www.discount-hosting.com offers everything I need. I don't think I need support, and I don't care about CGI.

I've looked at their forum and see very little sign of system trouble. Of course, maybe they edit out the bad news!

Does anyone have experience with them? Are they reliable?

Does it hurt to have a server across the ocean? Will that slow down transfer rates for my viewers?

I'm still under their free 30 day period but for what it's worth the past 3 weeks have been good. Fairly fast, no down time (3 weeks). It looks to be a great deal for 10 bucks. The only small problem is if you are transfering a site from somewhere else. The domain has to be fully propagated to them before they will set you up. Their set up was about 36 hours later after the domain transfer. So, you will have some down time with the move.

Hmm. Pretty spartan! Thanks for the advice. Sounds okay but not great. Maybe I'll run a new site on them.

Have you tried Internetseer.com's downtime reporting service on them? (I was surprised by how often my current host is down when I began tracking.)

I have a Qwk.mon 60min check on them. You can also read through their own forum to see some good and bad others have gone through. You are right... just sign up for the free 30 days and check them out for yourself.

One more thing... somewhere I think I read that their servers are with someone on the eastcoast (US) even though the company is French.

They were with DN.NET 3 months ago... suppose they are still with them...

I've asked Discount-hosting for info on which control panel they're using, and for clarification on their downtime. It seems as though they're saying that they were last down 101 days ago and that this was because of a system upgrade. If that's true, I'm impressed.

The control panel isn't anything much... just email forwarding. Also available is Webalizer stats (in French). Still, where else can you go for 10 bucks?
