Howdy,

I'm searching for a host for a small site. Nothing fancy. I've not found any references to on this site: www.Penhost.com

They've been very quick to respond to email questions, but I hate to jump into something if I've not heard feedback from others. Can anyone tell me about their experience there?

Hello Art,

I can't find the data transfer allocated for each of their hosting plan. Did you ask them or did I being *L* :(

The only place I saw anything about transfer limits, was in their TOS.
Talking about the server load thing.
At least they're not saying unlimited
Although I've never heard of them. That would raise a red flag for me.

Yes, in their TOS they basically say that if you hog the processor or bandwidth they can cut you off immediately and kick you out, with no refund. But they don't say how much is too much. It does sound iffy.

Thanks,
Art

lol that's amazing :)

What about if they only allow you to have 100mb of monthly data transfer for your site? I have emailed them and see how fast their response with my question about their data transfer allowance for each of their hosting plan ;)

Let us know what they say.

Although transfer probably doesn't matter in my case, because I'm using less than 500 MB of transfer a month.

Okay... as soon as I get a reply from them I will PM you if you want ;) I don't know whether am I allow to post the reply here or not ?

It does matter to you if you are using 500mb transfer and if they only allow 100mb data transfer each month.

azw - you should also ask for a list of client sites or a list of satisfied clients. Do they have forums ? A open forum is a good place to judge how the host is - one host I know has thier forums full of complaints and they are proud of that too:confused:

some hot favs of this forum are

aletiahosting,tera-byte,valuablehost,affordablehost - it may be worth emailing each of them .

cheapest : nuke.to ($45, good uptimes, all functions,good forums)
discount-hosting.com ( $10/year, reliable,fast, no perl,no support)

you may like to comapare penhost against these features.

HI,

Yes, I'm considering Affordable, Discount-hosting, too.

Have you used either of those?

Would it make any different in download times if the host is in France (Discount-hosting) and most of my viewers are in the States?

Unfortunately, Penhost doesn't have a forum. I'm tending to shy away from them, when there are better bets (there are reports of other people's experience with the other two).

Affordable has a 1 GB transfer bonus for signing up this month. I'm leaning toward them.

hi azw !

I have accounts with both tera and Affordablehost.com.
So far I have found no probs with Affordablehost - you can email your questions for a fast reply.May be Tina will see this post if Tina is here. One thing though - if you're after the much talked about cpanel you wont find it here ( see my other posts). But I love what they have. Bandwidthwise they are not the cheapest ( compare tera's package at $99 annually - 20 GIGs/month) but the extra GIG they are offering holds good for lifetime. They lack a presales forum like aletia (10 GIGs) but they have a good detailed list of clients with hyperlinks ( unlike tera-byte who offer names but no hyperlinks -quite purposeless) - I tested those sites for over 2 weeks and felt satisfied. All in all I am in favour of them and tera compared to others. If you have an extra $10 to spare an extra account at discount-hosting wont be bad - you can get hyperlinks from their www board ( forums) of sites hosted with them .I f you want to test the speed you can do that. All the best . Cheers :)

ps :after posting this I read the thread on tera - better read it. I have so far no such experience but this post makes me think :( ,
more so becoz Steve is silent to this post.

Hey, Safu,

Have you tried Internetseer.com's downtime tracking service on your hosts? It's pretty interesting to see the results. I was shocked by how much downtime I didn't know about on my host!

I'll be interested to hear your results after a week or two.

Hey,

Penhost says they're using PSA Plesk Server Administrator as the control panel.

They also say that if I need to know my monthly limit on transfer, that I might consider it to be 50GB. That's huge. I suppose they're counting on most people not using much at all.
