Hi,

I Hope this may be a bug in cpanel. You can directly change the cpanel password in

WHM -> Account Functions -> Password Modification.

Otherwise you can edit the/etc/passwd,/etc/shadow/,/etc/group files and delete the password entry. and use the \"passwd\" command to add a new password.

Then run the \"sync\" command to synchronize it.

To solve this issue...............
Please try the latest edge version, it should pass error messages from passwd along better.

=======================
Note: try changing the users password from a shell to see why the password won't change.

As far as it goes, seems to be outstanding and many who tried what blessen pasted (a quote from nick) says it didn't work.. but this is the source : http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18511&perpage=15&highlight=spawn%20/usr/bin/passwd%20t&pagenumber=1

What cPanel theme are you using? If you are using an outdated one such as bluelagoon or the old xskin you might want to migrate to a newer supported skin.

Well perhaps your client is trying to use too simple a password. Try changing password in shell and see if there's any error message.
